And... my vehicular a.d.d. struck again. The day had come to excavate the 40 from my mom's shop and haul it to mine where I've actually got equipment to work with. This would have gone as planned but I also happen to store my mustang there. My dad and I restored it 30+ years ago when I was a kid, and it's not been tagged/driven since 07. I had recently been getting nostalgic about seeing it on the road again and I reasoned with myself that the mustang would be a much quicker turnaround than the 40 would and I could be driving it this summer. It didn't take much for me to convince myself that this was the best course of action and before I knew it, the mustang was sitting outside in the sunshine for the first time in many years and the poor 40 was still parked in the dark, lonely corner of the shop. I plan on having the car done in the next month or two then to get back on track with my initial pipe dream for the summer - to have the 40 at the shop and be making steady forward progress on it again. I think I have decided not to go with the 5vz swap and am keeping an eye out for a running or rebuildable 2f and 4 speed to put back in it. We'll see what if anything comes along before I reach the point I need a power train to drop in it. We all know threads are worthless without pics, and since I don't have any progress shots of the 40 here are a couple of the car to tide everyone over.

In keeping with my long running traditions of compulsively searching classifieds for junk I don't need and making poor financial decisions, i now have this thing sitting in my yard. It popped up on Facebook marketplace...it was really close to home and was priced right. It was a irresistible combination and I owned it within 24 hours of it being listed. I rationalized with myself that for around the same money as I'd have in acquiring the missing power train parts for my 40, I could have a complete running and driving (I'm being generous with the term "driving") rig that also had the correct hardtop sides, doors, and windshield frame to make my 40 less Frankensteined together. It's showing around 15k (115k according to po) on the odometer and actually appears to run very well considering that it's been sitting in his dad's garage for several decades and the extent of the repairs made by PO's son to make it run and drive are putting gas in it, installing a junk electric fuel pump and replacing clutch master/slave. It even came with a pile of parts that included original hubcaps, jack, spare tire carrier, air intake horn and boot, and marker/tail lights to hit the high points. Current plan is to baseline the rig, give it a proper tune up, and make repairs necessary on power train/axles to make it reliable... maybe drive it some and ultimately swap engine/trans/xfer and axles/driveshafts to the 79. It'll be a bit before these plans come to fruition since I'm still in the middle of my mustang project but acquiring this thing is a HUGE step towards putting the 79 back on the road.
