Sat Feb 5 I had my suspicious but when the doors went on it became very clear this thing had been wrecked (rolled/laid over at the minimum). Wonder if that's likely what took it off the road? Drivers a pillar is laid back, dug a bunch of dirt/sand/glass shards outta the gap opened up in the cowl/windshield base pinchweld.

Sun Feb 6 Got out my official body pull ratchet strap and put some pressure on the cowl to see how it was going to respond. Looks like a actual pull will be in order. Also spent more time bathing her nether-regions in PB.

This entire thread seems normal to me. Keep up the good work. Jealous you have a dry area to work out of.

Tue Feb 8 set up and pulled the engine. Has sat open a very long time, holes rusted through the oil pan. Looks like most of the water got in through the loose lifter cover(the inside of which looked absolutely terrible), the top end looked amazing considering the life it'd been living. Pics of the girlfriend in her ridiculous jammies is just because she'd be pissed if she knew I posted it, so enjoy.

Sun Feb 13 put in the heater I got from @tornadoalleycruiser (60ish) for safekeeping. And to make myself feel like this thing isn't missing absolutely-effing-everything (which it is) and that I wouldn't be better off parting it out and buying the running, driving 68/76 hybrid @Drake2 has listed (which I undoubtedly would). Speaking of which, got parts lot from him-signal lamps, door strikers, amby door hinges for tailgate project, door limiters etc (300ish) spare tire carrier from @1MAC (200+makers mark) and barn doors, throttle pedal, glovebox knob, ashtray, windshield brackets from @letterman52 (300ish). Also did some measuring to try to get a handle on how tweeked the a pillar is. Asked mud what their non crashed rigs measured at and @1911 came in with the win, verifying it was pushed back 1/2" between our reference points

Sun Feb 20 busted out the gantry crane again, this time as a body pull tower. Got into my stash of official body pull ratchet straps and a deadblow hammer and block of wood and set to work on both the bib which was pushed in a good couple inches on the bottom drivers corner and bowed across the top, and the a pillar. Not many pics of this. It all screamed bad idea was definitely dangerous and not the correct way to do it so maybe for the best no documentation. Bib is as square as it's likely going to get and the door fits much better. Although now that the door somewhat fits the opening it has become obvious the b pillar is pushed out, making the tub wider than it should be measured across the b pillars, which is why I had a hell of a time with that connect when setting the top (figured the top was just sprung from improper storage or God knows what). Guess another gantry crane ratchet strap pull season is in order

The donor rig. Package deal with a rolled 04 2wd (600). Drove it home(15 miles), the rear end SCREAMS on both accel and decel. Didn't top 40 mph cause that's as fast as I wanted to be going in case it locked up. It made it home because, Toyota.

Glad I could be part of your rebuild and part of the new life you are breathing into this rig. Keep sending progress pics!

This entire thread seems normal to me. Keep up the good work. Jealous you have a dry area to work out of.
It's actually my mom's shop, and was basically the only dry space available when I brought it home...i spent every weekend of my childhood there restoring cars with my dad so it's neat to be tinkering on cars there again. It's definitely REALLY nice having an actual building to work out of, the guys that do builds/projects in their driveways Have a level of commitment and drive I just don't possess. i do good to find ambition to work in a heated building while not being snowed on so hats off to you!

I will look for a manual steering box at the house. And i believe you were still looking for a hood and windshield frame.

I appreciate the offer, but I'm already sitting on a mini truck ps box so while I'm swapping stuff anyways I will make use of it and get an upgrade while I'm at it. correct- I am still in search of a hood and windshield frame, and have added a fiberglass roof cap to that list should you happen across any of those items. Thanks again!

Are you going to 3.4 swap this?? Don't see many of those done

If you're parting out that red truck I'll take the badass TRD headrests 😅

that is my plan, I went back and forth on repowering it with this donor rig or a 01-02ish rollover tundra I have. while I was thinking about it the packrats got into the tundra and proceeded to do what they do and destroy wiring and make a crap filled nest of the whole truck. It was obviously running and driving when it got rolled but I haven't personally heard it run or seen it move under its own power and it would now need both a underhood and dash harness replacement/heavy repair to even attempt to test run it.(I drove the red tacoma home) of course the 2uz would have the v8 cool factor and better power but this thing is gonna spend 90% of its life on pavement/gravel (55 mph county roads), and definitely won't be on more than a 33" tire (likely 31's) with stockish ride height and any offroad activities would be fairly tame. I believe the 5vz should motivate it around just fine for my intended usage. while it would definitely be cool, I don't know that I NEED the v8 power enough to justify the added headache. so, it's the classic "these are the parts I already owned" reasoning behind almost all sub optimal swappage that takes place. anyone who's been down this road before and has a differing opinion of the suitability of the 3.4 to do what I'm planning, I would love to hear about it before I get too deep into a swap I'd regret... I actually plan on attempting to use the seats in the 40. if that doesn't pan out you've got first dibs on headrests.

To anyone reading this- sorry, you are unlikely to find any useful information here.

Hey wait a sec. My thread is the useless information thread......There can be only one. 😉

Can’t wait to see how this turns out....!!! I’m tuning in.

Lol... Ok, ok I’ll surrender peacefully. Maybe I’ll be that “other useless information thread”

Perhaps a battle of lack of wits is in order! Hahaha... careful though, nobody knows more about nothing than me!
