Hey everyone. New to the forum and new to the GX world. Been thinking about getting one for a few months and have been creeping for awhile. After weeks of reading it's amazing how underrated these vehicles are. It's the typical "soccer mom" platform, but still great off-road capabilities. Anyways...

My name is Ryan located in Little Rock, Arkansas. 26 years old and love the outdoors. I have my own shop and primarily work on foreign cars but still do a little bit of everything. Ive had a '73 Gran Torino, Mustangs, Camaros, trucks. I got into diesels for awhile but DANG does it get expensive! I have always loved the GX's every time they come through the shop and always so surprised at Toyota products not leaking a drop of oil at 120,000+ miles! So I decided I need something a little more practical and sold the truck.

I Found a deal on a 2006 Titanium Metallic Base model, grey interior ( did not want the nav ) with 122k miles on it. Out of the 8 I looked at this one was the cleanest so I jumped on it. Only problem was the dash is cracked to hell but I knew it was normal. Unfortunately no records of the major service was done and it looked like the clutch fan nuts never saw a wrench on them. So before any build gets started spark plugs, timing belt/water pump, t-stat, drivebelt, and all fluids are getting changed.

So far all I've done is take off the step rails and trim the lower black piece of the mud flaps. Typical must do's lol. I'll be starting a build thread here in the next few months when my bank account gets back up to par after the purchase of the vehicle haha. Anyways, glad to be a part of the crew!

Welcome! Take it to the Lexus dealer for the dash recall ASAP. You will get a new one for free.

Don't forget to join GXOR on FB for the social side of GX :P

And post pics!

Holy crap it's covered! I just called and I have to swing over there for him to take some pictures to get it ordered. Thanks for the heads up!

I'll join that for sure. Is anybody else on any of the other forums? I searched GX470 forums in google and like 100 different Lexus forums popped up. This one was my favorite though.

Non-nav, dark interior, very nice!

Thank you sir!
I wish mine had the dark interior. I just picked up my GX a week or so ago and I am already regretting that it has the light tan interior. I feel like it would be a lot easier to keep clean looking if it was dark like yours.

Congrats on the purchase!

My duramax I had before this had the light silver interior. And given my occupation it got dirty SO MUCH. I specifically wanted darker interior, I didn't care if I had to pay a little extra because of it for a clean one.

I would recommend getting some floor mats and seat covers and it shouldn't be too bad for you. Or just keep some quick interior detailed handy and wipe it down once a week.

3/14/17 update!

Finally was able to order a lift a little sooner than expected! Ordered some 2.5" Bilstein 5100s, Toytec 3" lift springs all around, 1.25" wheel spacers, and found some half worn Hankook MT 285/70/17 for cheap to run for now. Once these get worn down I'll probably go down to a 275 KO2.

Also performed the PFran LED interior conversion. What a difference! Definitely a must do!

FedEx delivered the last of the goods today. Now it's the time frame on when I can get it installed :/

Question: should I go ahead and installed the diff drop down spacers? Or leave it alone? I'm really not THAT concerned with CV Angles knowing that there's others on here without any issues.

With a 2.5" lift you will be fine not doing the diff drop.

oh man so many goodies. Are you going to locate a spare tire of same size or not worry? I do like that dark interior...the more new guys that post on here the more I think a 120 is a good idea...

Haven't figured out the spare situation yet. The only other spare size I have is a 265/70/17, which wouldn't work if used as a spare. But I might throw it under there anyway. I plan on getting a roof rack on the near future and end up locking one down up there.

A 120 series is always a good way to go!

Got to install the lift today!

2.5" 5100s set at top notch, Toytec 3" springs all the way around, 1.25" wheel spacers, 285/70/17 Dynopro MTs. I love the way it looks!

I should have went ahead and forked out for the SSO rear spring conversion. I'll probably end up doing that since I don't want to fudge with the front at all. The rear spacer is far easier. All I bought was the $70 install kit. I guess I was worried it would have to much take the other way around.

Drives pretty good actually. A lot better than factory. Pretty impressed. I'll get out and do some flexing pictures later.

You might not want to run 5100s and Eibach springs on anything other than the lowest 5100 setting. Your CV joints will be screaming after a couple hundred miles. Not to mention you'll definitely need new UCAs to get a half-way decent alignment. Looks like you got about 5"-6" of lift there.
