shuttering and stalling??? dirty throttle body??? bad sock filter??
Is the problem electrical or fuel delivery...maybe a loose vacum line ...check em ...they can get pulled off easy. I had the stealer knock mine loose once.

bad gas??

I have run 2 tanks of premium when I first bought her to hopefully clean out ant old gas and added fuel treatment.

Was thinking maybe fuel filter or injectors? ?

Ill call Brad Monday since he's not going to get to it till then and suggest vacuum lines. Is the throttle body cleaning an easy DIY? Ill look into that as well...

Just frustrated, it seems to only do it when its cold ( been sitting for a while )

Throttle body is pretty easy to pull off, just take care not to break the intake tube, those things get pretty brittle sitting on top of the valve cover. Just pull it, take some MAF/Carb and Choke cleaner (your choice) to it and clean it up. Bolt it back on, it'll either help or not, you will know pretty quickly.

80's are known to have engine wire harness issues. Right where the harness runs by the egr pipe. You might move the harness there when you have this issue and see if that might be your issue.

Would this get better after warming up?
It's still at RHT, but I'm going to call Brad in a little while and give him all the suggestions. He did tell me that he rewired the harness for the oil sending unit when he replaced it, could that have anything to do with it?

I doubt the oil sending unit wire would have anything to do with it, I did have a dirty sock filter once that made mine throw OBD II codes, cleaned it and it was fine. If you decide to do that, make sure you aren't gonna drive it for a day, or do it when the fuel is almost all the way out. As Marshall said, the wiring harness is right at the firewall, right up against the EGR and stuff, so that is worth checking too...

Yep its a 94 80 series.
Spoke to brad, and he says they cant get it to do what I'm describing. Anyway, he said he would run a few more tests and let me know tomorrow. I might just go get it wed.

I know something is wrong but they cant seem to pin point it

BAD NEWS!!

so finally RHT called me and they reproduced the idle issue and found the egr valve, modulator valve and vsv value need to be replaced. He said it looks like water got inside and rusted it out. Since I'm not a mechanic I'm not sure what that means or how that happened. He said the rust caused it to breath threw the holes. Anyway he said parts would run 1200 and labor 540... I'm now at a loss.....

Ouch. Personally I would prob try to find a low mileage parts truck and get everything you can. I know Jay had an issue with his EGR when he had his 80. Think he had it replaced at RHT.

Yep RHT replaced the entire EGR system on my 80. I wonder how hard it is to desmog an 80 if you don't have to have it. I know there is a thread somewhere outlining this. Just a thought...

I thought about taking it all out, but I might possibly be moving to MD where they do inspections. Might have to sell a few things and bite the bullet.

Ill sell you a whole motor for 500 bux. It is a 95 however so both are a 1fz but not sure what miniscule differences there could be (pair valve on the 94 comes to mind though) Use what you want and part the rest or swap it in and still come out cheaper.
Not doubting RHT but that sounds awfully spendy. Modulator was only 20 bux and fixed my code for a year. Lots of PO401 code threads discussing the EGR valve and vsv and such. Might be worth a read. Someone on mud has removed all that crap, just cant recall what thread its in or who it was.

I appreciate the offer, but I don't have a garage and most of my tools are in storage. So a full motor is not what I'm looking for.

I'm going to read up and see what I can find, also not sure I want to start putting on old parts that will need to be replaced in the near future like your year fix.

Fist things first going to get a printed out parts list from RHT and get prices from cruiser Dan. Then I'll go from there

Wasn't aware that was dans price too.

Do you guys think the prices are reasonable, or should I shop around?
