This works correctly. And so you have it:
Torque (Engine drain plug): 29 N·m (300 kgf·cm, 22 ft·lbf)

Just swapped one of those into mine this morning. The brass was stiff on removal and I had a hell of a time getting it start without cross threading after my 1st flush a couple weeks ago. The new one with the drain spout went right in.
 
How critical are those pins and dowels? Are these just used to align parts?
 
Very, for alignment and for shear strength. Especially between the pan and block since one is aluminum and one is cast iron.

That sucks for me then as I forgot those on the bottom. I'm not understanding the shear strength though as the oil pan is just hanging there with like 20 bolts in it.

I get the alignment need for the headgasket of course but the others dont seem as critical, idk though.
