With respect to red vs green antifreeze, there are a thousand threads on here regarding it. My two cents - if it's red now, flush and stay with red. If it's green now, fllush and stay with green. If you can't tell, flush the hell out of it and go with green.

You drove over the curb! The traditional first picture should have been in it's native habitat,,, the gas station!:hillbilly:

Well if I had thought of taking pictures when I first picked it up I would have. The first stop was a QT not too far from the PO house. But my stomach as talking to me so I had priorities.

Heater hose, :meh:.

I toss those huge, heavy things straight in the recycle, much prefer the factory spring clamps.

Agree, inspect and do what is needed. People get all spun up about the PHH, here most often the highest priority is the heater valve.

We have had our conversation regarding that. I am working today and tomorrow and plan on really looking it over tomorrow and make a list and fix what is needed based off priorities.

Just do the PHH. How you do it is up to you. I went with silicone hose and the Breeze clamps and I have no regrets. :)

I have seen that Wits End has the fix for the PHH for $18. I plan on swapping a majority of the hoses do to the heat here in AZ.

So basically green is good to go...

I like red for one reason, if there is a leak there is a pink trail that leads me right to it.

That is a good point to support an argument to use red.

Can you switch if it is green? I know red can be hard to find.

Other then enabling you to track a leak easier, are there any pros to running red over green?

20+ years of being in the desert would make me want to change it out if it is original.

If replaced with an OEM assembly how does one tell if its original or not?

I guess you don't unless they tell you it has, there is a record of it or it's obviously not original. That's sort of the point. For less than $20, you can fix a common failure point in the cooling system. All I am trying to do is help @OffRoadScott avoid being one of the guys that post a thread about overheating the first time it starts to get up to 120 degrees in the desert this spring/summer;)

We know there is a possible head gasket problem with these motors and it also seems like we know that a cooling system in good operating shape helps avoid the head gasket popping if the truck overheats. That's all I am talking about. If he wants to run it and wait til it bursts, he is more than capable of doing that, I am sure :)

Well it has be a little while since I have updated this post.

The power steering pump among a few other issues need to be addressed. There are visible leaks but I will get to those eventually.

The power steering pump is sucking air from somewhere and I am sure it is a bad gasket or crack in one of the hoses allowing air into the system.

On another note my samples came in from Monstaliner. I ordered 4 total, WWII OD Green, a Gray, San Panties and Desert Tan. The WWII OD Green and the Gray were eliminated fairly by vote.

Here at the remaining two choices, San Panties and Desert Tan.

What is everyone's opinion on these two choices?

Sure this has been asked but...

Just found a insanely good deal on a set of OME heavy 3" springs for the rear. But for the fronts I am thinking of going with the OME 2850 (heavy 2.5") and doing the Slee 30mm spacers. That should give me just over 3.5" of lift, my theory with going higher in the front is due to the weight of the engine.

What does everyone think?

My OME needed a 1” spacer to sit level

I just put on Dobinson 100mm and it sits level as can be.

I don't want to mix and match honestly and the deal I got on these spring (less then 80) I cant go wrong.

OME J springs are a good match for heavy rears, no spacer needed. The plastic spacers have been problematic, if needed we make metal spacers, pretty easy, can show you how.

I will look into the OME J springs. I am off on Thursday I will swing by and provide all the guys there a good laugh with my LC.

I just ordered some stuff from Wits End.
  • PHH hose work around kit
  • Power steering return hose 3/8
  • Power steering return hose 5/8
I might have ordered two of the same thing, I will call in the AM. But maybe one of you can clear it up for me though as I am a complete effing noob to this whole LC thing.

I am about to order some stuff from Rock Auto.
  • Complete brake kit (front/rear w/pads)
  • Valve cover gasket
  • Crankshaft seal
  • Power steering pump
Would you all recommend the caster kits from either Slee, Absolute Wits End or Metal Tech? They all look the same, has anyone used either of these companies before?

Tomorrow I am have to fix a friend of my wifes car. The gas pedal sensor has gone bad, thank goodness it is only a connector and 2 t-30 torx screws.

After I am done I am going pick the brains of the guys over at Sierra Expeditions, and pick the brain of a few other LC owners.

I might have ordered two of the same thing, I will call him in the morning.

Or just post up here and I’ll take care of it. But you have one of each of the hoses going to and from the reservoir so you should be good ;)
