Hi, I need to find replacement front seats for my 83 fj60. PO put in big bulky electronic seats that don’t work—it’s impossible to get in and out or adjust them to drive. Want to find two front seats that are the right size for the cabin. Trying to avoid spend big money on OEM seats, unless someone can convince me that I should. Want something comfortable. Any thoughts on aftermarket seats that are good or other Toyota seats that fit this cabin?

There's a number of threads with seat swaps involved in here. BMW seats are quite popular, not sure of which models though. I believe Torfab has a kit available for those. For my 60 i plan on installing seats from my old 1st 4runner as i've found those very comfortable for my old carcess. Best of luck on your quest

I tried to find an existing thread before I posted, but didn’t come up with anything… maybe swap is the magic word? I’ll try again.

Thanks for your reply

I found and used a set of older Subaru seats for 4-5 years. The brackets from the factory 60 seats unbolt easily but there is
a slight difference from earlier 60 to 86 or later 60. Do you even have the original lower adjuster brackets for front to rear
adjustment? Most Toyota seats have save dimensional pattern for many years. so swapping just seat bottoms onto factory
60 adjustment brackets isn't a big deal

If you want stock seats and feel like driving a couple of hours north, I've got my old stock seats to let go for cheap.

If you want BMW bits, here's a thread about heating them Heating BMW seats (using BMW parts) - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/heating-bmw-seats-using-bmw-parts.897522/

And here's the seat brackets you want (shows sold out but maybe give them a call and ask Nick

This is the closest thing to comprehensive that you're gonna find on Mud:

Whatever route you choose - BMW, Corbeau, Recaro, Smittybilt, random junkyard find - you should expect to either buy or fabricate some sort of bracket or adapter to make the "new" seats work in your truck. Earlier 60s (up through '85) have a unique floor setup, so the seats don't actually sit on the floor but instead are on a raised hump and a couple of bosses. Take a good look. There are a lot of seats out there that are *close* to unadapted plug and play, but few or none that actually are. But there's tons of us out there driving around on aftermarket seats so it's clearly not that hard to do.

Some people with earlier 60s cut up the floor mounts out to simplify a swap, others (like me) worked with them. I made a simple "U" adapter out of 3/16" steel plate and angle. That bolts to the original mounting holes. The new seats bolt to holes drilled in the adapters. In my case I used e30 BMW seats from an early 90s 325i.

All of which is to say, if the seats in the post above ^^ are cheap enough, buy them, throw some covers on them, and move on to the next thing.

I bought a set of Procar Elite seats in grey canvas a few years ago. Procar Elite™ Seat | Procar by SCAT | Custom Seating Solutions - https://procarbyscat.com/product/elite/
They are really comfy. The stock sliders bolt on without any work. It took me less than 20 minutes to swap out both front seats. I shopped around and found that Jegs Performance had the cheapest price but that was 5 years ago.View attachment 4059177

Those look good. Depending on colors around $450 for drivers and a little less for passenger side

Been sitting my butt in this setup for over 10years. Love them still. Just as posted, bolt in. I got mine from iron pig off road.

Those look pretty damn good, bolt in is a big plus! I've never been interested in aftermarket seats until recently, these Procars and the Bestop seats look like the best options and appropriately sized in there. I don't need fancy power and heaters in an old analog rig.

How "tight" is the bolstering on the Procars? I find snug bolstering uncomfortable, not looking for sport mode here. The Bestop seats look closer to OEM ish.
@CardinalFJ60 any photos to add?

Has anyone found aftermarket seat covers (like Carhartt's, etc) that fit these style of seats?
