I am doing a disc brake fine spline conversion and started to wonder what year and model hubs would interchange.
I think what I have learned is 1979 to 1990 40 series, 55, 60 series, 70 series, 4runners, short birf 80s to 95 and minitrucks to 1990 are all interchangeable?
The wife is surpriaed these are not $600 for the pair

Correct. With few exceptions, the 1/1979 - 1/1990 hubs are all the same, and they will also fit on the 1/1990-1999 7x & 1/1990+ 8x (including late model 8x Autana however they do have a different hub body shape and some prefer the scallops to match the 7x/8x wheel hub. 4/1994-1/1998 8x Series with the factory full-time/drive-flanges will need either a different birf (known as the short) OR machine an extra groove in the stock birf, a spacer cannot be used. The flange pattern on the ~8/1999 7x/10x Series has a larger hub body pattern and stud and can't be used.
