Still somewhat new to the FJ40 world and will be replacing my Superwinch locking hubs with some new Aisins. Im just trying to understand which Aisin version I need.

1) Is there a difference between the red, gold or even silver Aisins for a stock 30 Spline setup?
2) My 1981 FJ40 is completely stock other than the Superwinch hubs - I assume in fact, I will need ones for a 30 Spline?
3) What came standard on a factory US-Spec 1981 FJ40?

My FJ40 will only be used for light/mild trail/beach/sand runs, so do not need to upgrade to anything more beefy.

Thanks for helping a brotha' out!

We would love to help @ Cruiser Outfitters. We stock more Toyota specific AISIN hub applications than any in North America, perhaps globally?

Do you have a specific color in mind?

I'm sure some one with more experience will chime in and correct me if I'm wrong, but so far as I'm aware there's no difference between thr colour variants other than colour.

So long as you have the correct spline count, which as far as I'm aware for an 81 is 30 splines, then choose whatever colour you want

That doesn't look like a Toyota wheel hub. I've never seen a sleeve like cover that fits that close to the locking hub body except on a Dana 44 axle.

There are different flange patterns and inner splines used on different Toyota's and Land Cruisers. But you're correct that for most of the common stuff, it comes down to color and budget.

Wow…I’m just wanting to be old school but orange…maybe!

That doesn't look like a Toyota wheel hub. I've never seen a sleeve like cover that fits that close to the locking hub body except on a Dana 44 axle.

The white spoke white and chrome spoke bought have a collar the covers the hub except for the end. Semi floating and full floating had their own version of covers that were completely closed. These are for US 40 series and 60 series 8/80+.

^^^^^what living said, it's a black collar. Super winch lock outs are 2 piece similar to Warns. Dana 44's are internally splined the collar is part of the wheel hub itself, the rotor attached to it.

@Living in the Past I assume these are just covers as you stated above here is a couple shots when I did some maintenance last year. But I hope this is all stocks it up with just aftermarket hubs. Please let me know if you see anything odd.

Got it. It just looked funny to me as almost all my 40 experience is pre-1978. And I had never seen that combo before.

CAUTION: Beware of the cheap Chinese knock-off hubs that have flooded the market--there IS a difference. Kurt has the authentic hubs available. It is important that you know the source of your parts and their reputation for honesty. This is not an area where you should try cutting corners.
Who said I was trying to cut corners…

Thanks for the order Peter :)
