My other poor financial decision: 1994 FZJ80 land cruiser

Just found this thread and love it as I probably made a bad financial decision and bought a ‘92 2.5 months ago that needs a lot of work, but besides the money pit, I am loving having it and the project. I am sure it will never be how I really want it, but it’s starting to be a fun journey learning here, searching parts, doing what my son and I can do and then having other things done at a local shop that is really into older LC’s. Just don’t ever want to use the + and = on a calculator.
Cruisers are the best man. 80s rule and they don’t make em like they used to. Enjoy the process

Today’s while I’m at it tinkering project. Got sound deadening on the rear quarter panels and rear doors. Still need to do the front doors and the roof after the repair before the new liner goes on.

Picked up a junkyard lx450 hatch. Planned on painting it instead of trying to fix the rust spot on my old hatch. Ended up cutting the glass out of my old hatch and the rust wasn’t really even under the seal. Just the corner of the hatch. Might be salvageable. Went back to lyttle creek to camp and stretch the legs. Wanted to see how much it had changed since the storms.

Finally knocked out new u joints for both the front and rear drive shafts. Underestimated how much of a pain in the ass they were. Maybe with the right tools it’s not so bad. Huge improvement though, drive line feels nice and tight.

Installed new wheel bearings and started driving my Tacoma again. It’s not great on gas either but it is way better than the cruiser. Forgot how much I love this truck too.

80 got a fresh starter today. I was having intermittent starting issues since I bought the truck. Threw a battery at it, new fusable link, and new alternator. Finally got around to doing the starter and it fires right up like a new car now.

Mounted my 50$ marketplace full size spare in the driveway. Beadlocks are nice because you can do it yourself. It was a pain in the ass though and I see why shops charge so much

I can tell you from experience roof rust repair is a pain gluing the head liner back in is a bitch .

Newest project, a couple months in the making. Bought a stainless Australian snorkel on Black Friday, waited weeks for it to show up only to find the holes in the fender isn’t compatible if you already have a safari style snorkel. It took forever to source a clean passenger side fender, let alone in white. I guess everyone gets in wrecks on the passenger side. Install was kind of a pain in the ass but I’m happy with the result. Truck is now exactly how I imagined it when I bought it.

Moved back to the Bay Area to be closer to family. Hit hollister hills immediately and did some body damage. Oops. I don’t think that will buff out. Hopefully can pop the dent a bit and find a replacement light. Time for a rear bar and tree hoops.
