Greetings, happy new LC year!

oy, it's time for some updates, cant't just be all about reading on this amazing site.
The upcoming year is going to be filled with TLC, as i am i the process of moving home to my sweet garage...

Some of the mods/accidents/trips and stuff so far:

Added proper reverse/working lights, 33w xenon kit. BOOM-Lights!

Did the 2LO mod, easy. also cleaned up the joints and lubed up the plastic bushings on the lever arms. Smoother shifting INDEED!

Some day before chistmas the car fxxxed up doing 90kmt on the icy highway.
The front right wheel bearing seized with no red alert.
The truck got a spin, but i managed to keep it on the road, barely.
All the luggage and stuff was reorganized, but i got off the road without destroying anything more...

The insurance truck wanted ALOT to drive me and the truck home, since the nearest shop was just around the corner.
I had a spare bearing in the truck, behind my shiny new side panels in the back, all the tools and no hurry (since everybody is sleeping at 02 in the night) and got to it after yelling to the insurance company in the phone...

Everything was DAMN hot, so i waited a bit to bolt it off.
The parts dissapeared trough the ice as they came off...

The locking nut is blue from the heat...

If anybody is wondering why i took the time to take pictures in the freezing cold, stranded on the highway in the middle of the night, it's because i had warm coffee and was in shock after near killing me and my beloved car...

Is this how it's supposed to look?

After picking out as much as i could of the bearings leftovers and rollers, i pulled the hub off, and revealed the shaitz.

The inner race of the outer bearing was properly welded together, so not much i could do without a grinder.
Called up my dad, drank some coffe, waited for hours and we took it home on a trilailer.

i do have this little lj70 to wheel in, so i could live happy for a few days...

story continues:

I got the truck in one pice home, and started wrenching...

This is my beloved service-pit, and this is where all the lovin' in going to happen in the future.

that little greasehole-pit under the truck, love it!

Soo, took off again, with the trailer to pick up my donor, which was 3 hours of driving away...
Met a big 40 tonnes semi-truck in one of the many icy turns, and he just blasted off the road right in front of me... Damn near death experience, 2 days in a row!
I stopped, climbed up on the trailer, witch now was laying on the side in a ditch 60 meters into the woods. tried to get the driver out of the trailer, but the BIG door slammed shut, with my beloved left hand on the hinge side of the door...snap! Insane pain. Scream! douh... :crybaby:
The sweedish driver was probably in shock, took his time to open the door. I could not get the door open! Another helping bypasser got the door open, and i left in a hurry.
Had to get my donor home, before the hand got useless. I sec later, the hand was useless.
Anyway, with some help, i got the donor home, and after a few days i could reenter my garage, working with one hand.
Cold as hell, i got the parts donated.
Both the spindle and hub was fubar so i took it all from the donor, swapped my disc and drove on.

By the way, this is how an old klunk-klunk birf looks like... the rollers expand their path...

now, i got the hand working again, and decided to move my cabin a bit.
The pto winch is perfect for pulling me out of the mud, but even more perfect for pulling nails and moving cabins.
The first move:

Cut the roof, drag as hell!
29122009652.jpg

Get some rolling logs under it
29122009653.jpg

And drag...
29122009655.jpg

like a charm. Even got lights on it!
29122009656.jpg

first part done. the other part needs a few more snatch-blocks and some more thinkering.
29122009658.jpg

even a little clip:

A few days later, i went wheeling... messed up two of my mtz's really bad, so now i have to get two new ones.
Really makes you realize how unpractical it is without a spare.
One tire i can rescue, use it as a spare, the other one is fubar!

Now i got the 8274 coming in, think the PTO winch is going under the truck, pulling my back off.
Just need to come over a handy way to arrange the 8274 in the front, and i should probably rebuild the warn before i put it in. It's been on another 60 since new.

Last weekend of january is going to be a cold 4-5days of camping and trailing, stay tuned! Hope the tires are here then...

Again, happy new year everyone!

You have serious cruiser love! Near death, smashed hand, in the cold wrenching is definite dedication. Hope your hand heals up.

Boots, nothing wrong with the love, it just got a little tough love this time...
My hand is healing, so is my death anxious dreams. I would kill myself if i killed the cruiser!
Thanks for watching!

Good luck on recovery! I don't think I've ever seen someone use their cruiser to move a house,

thanks!
i'm adding another two snatch-blocks for when i move the rest of the cabin... gonna be a tough one!
stay tuned...

x2 on the love, I seriously am jealous of your cruiser!!!! please keep this thread going!

cruiser guy, i'll post up here now and then, between all the reading going on.
Now it's soo damn cold here, should have kept my little 2.4 diesel running all night...darn... had to use the ski-doo today, and now im building a fire under the engine to wake it.
the batteries died, trying to awake them now.

Found out that the freeze-plug defa heater stopped working at the 2H.
Anyone had similar problems? how do i fix it? can i remove the good one from the donor, that one works good...without a pre-heater the old leaky bastard is sour cream in the morning...

ok Ill be watching and man that sucks dont you have a warming blanket for the battery and cant you plug in your truck?

Im guessing he means like a 12v one that plugs into the cigarette lighter plug

hmm... would that be good in conditions below -20-30 F*?

Right now i'm saving the batteries with a 24volt c-tec hi tech charger during the night. But if i dont plug it in, the batteries are pretty much dead in the morning.

Anyway, a good battery is at 40% cranking power at minus 18 deg celcius, now it's -22 down to -30 or 35 at worst.
I guess a "not perfectly good" battery in a "not perfect neighborhood" in a 24v system is a no-go.
Well, i have to pay for tires first, batteries next month.
Until then, i guess i'll try another easier oil, and still use the charger during the night. :meh::bang:

yes that would be the one and tlcNorway they sell those blankets all over the interent

well, i'll have a look... hoping to find some in 24v edition then... or modify them to run serially. The days i'm away from the house, that's when i really need those batteries to be top shape...
I'll try to drain them and fill new acid before i recharge them again, so they can do their last months effort.
I sold my GEL batteries, as they did not seem to work as well in a 24v system. Now i regret, after fiddeling with the regulator and alternator, getting everything tip top.
The GEL's are pretty sloppy if they dont get the right charging voltage, wich would be 28.8 in a 24v system.
My regulator didn't keep up with the revs to good.

Brr...the temps are still creeping... cranked the crusader today, REALLY smoky. been standing there for two days in below -30degrees celcius. Love beeing ouside in the cold. Seriously!

And tried to help a friend out with his chevy... what's wrong with this picture?

Sounds like you are in good shape if it starts at those temperatures. I think your dog was ready to go for a ride in the cruiser. :)

man!!!! I want both your cruisers!!

haha, yup, the dog was overhappy, and didn't know if she should jump into the big, noisy, smokey, cold, limp one, or jump into the small, warm, boring one... Guess what i chose!

The 70 is only a DD until i get a hold of some new shoes for the 60. That's why it's limping now...
