You want more? Going on a litte trip tomorrow, and my friend got his new insane camera now...i'll wipe the mud off the beast and well, let's see what he can do with his ludacrisly expensive lens...

And OH MY GOD the stock 2H runs great!!! You can literally HEAR that it's a everlasting smooth machine. Maybe i'll take it for a test run tomorrow if the roads are not too slippery.

sounds good to me:beer: I'm mostly jealous that you have a 2h:grinpimp:

soo...i got around to take a look at the old stock cruiser.
It's a lot of good parts on this one!
After ripping all the messed up gay electronics, i went for a try.

New oil, filters, diesel, pulled the glowplugs, manually cranked the engine to see if it rusted up inside, pulled it a few rounds on the starter without the plugs, put in the plugs, fiddled around with the thief-wrecked ignition and VOILA!
This is the result, after 2 years of sitting in the forest low on all liquids waiting for a new owner:

You buy it in Finland? I remember seeing lot of cruisers in Finland for sale compared to Norway. The 2H is a great engine. It is always fun to bring a engine back from the dead and start it up for the first time in years.

I am going to have to check out your cruiser next time I am in Tromsø. Cool pictures!. Are there places to wheel in Sweden and Finland that are not far from Tromsø?

Both of theese HJ60's have been in Norway since `81, but there are a lot of similar cars over in finland. Many more of the high roofed type and the 61 with 12ht.
Great fun to bring it alive. Cant wait to rebuild it and put it in the Big60.

Have you been here before? Be sure to make contact when you get here, always good to meet up with cruiserheads!

There are few legal driving spots around here, but the Lapland Trophy 2009 in Finland, some trails in (Boden) sweeden, and the Arctic Trophy in Russia is awsome.
Hopefully going to be a co-driver in the mud of AT Russia this summer, running a super-light hilux as the 60 would be way to heavy, and the max wheel size is 38".

It really is, yes...

Now to the works. I got started on the quarter side panels but the rain got me.

i had a few of these plates, 75x150cm, usaually use them for concrete formwork. Perfect for my use, actually, as they are rigid, lightweight and does not suck water like normal plywood.

Shaped holed for bolts, shaped and smoothed the edges, 2mm 30degree cut for the doors, add a 2mm gasket and the door goes flush with the panel, without support on the back. Best solution so far, was tinkering for a while to get that idea...

Test-fit, CHECK, when they bolt up!

2 layers of suitable paint, primer for wood. The rain got me before i got to the hinges, gasket and latch.

I cant get my hands on any HD full length sliders for the drawers.
Maybe ill just make regular boxes with a snug fit, and wheels underneath in the back to help get them in. would be easier to get them out, and away, as i usually use my tailgate for wrencing on stuff.

I do all my work outside too and I wear a nice jumpsuit to keep me warm but I think you've got me beat on more layers! Great job on getting that engine purring again.

nice job!! looks better than mine all mine are, are marine plywood with rhino linning on them

The layers are oon! it's basically just rain that beats me out there...:crybaby:
Dony know if i'll just do a gasket rebuild, or the full rebuild. It sounds reeeally good.

Thanks, cruiser guy! i would prefer some solid lining on them, but just won't fit my paycheck this time. can always do it later...black for now, just to match the incoming tailgate lid.

How are you mounting the rear panels?

Some popnuts, the rest bolts and washers, with a few hookups for straps on the top.

for the linning I used the dupli color roll on bed liner which you can get cheap and so far I havent scratched it (its very Strong).

What are your plans for the blue hj????

The plans are to pull the engine, rebuild it, pop the turbo on there, clean the engine up nice and put it in the black sheep. The drivetrain is smooth on the donor, so that will go in together with the 61 rear FF axle on the black after a repack. The doors, hoods, fenders from the donor will be used while i strip and repaint the black bodywork. That way i can get away with painting the car during the winter. It's a full time DD, so it has to work! The PO painted most of the interior black in the sheep, so i'll probably pick some of the interior from the donor too.
The donor is a serious rust bucket, but the engine has only 180km in it. Party!

good idea!! what do you plan to do with the old engine out of black???

The old leaky motor, i dunno...
Not worth rebuilding and sell it, as theese generrally are not tracked down... all the 2H's over here just keeps running, and the price of a used 2H is not much, the demand just isnt there (yet)
I think i'm just gonna sit on it for a while, and if a nice project comes up, ill put it in there. I'm lurking at 45PU projects...
Or it will come in handy when my new enginge crosses the 800,000km mark and needs replacing again. ;)
Also thinking of modifying to run veggie oil, probably good idea to ceep a spare engine in the garage.
