An opportunity came up to finally change out the PO's aftermarket wheels and old cracked 32" BFGs. We got @Dozer18 's old chrome OEM wheels, and gave them a second life on our HJ60 to live out their days in Hawaii!

We also got the OEM center caps from him. They will be cleaned up, get all the rust treated, then painted before installing.

A little scrubbing and cleaning all the old road grime off, and they shined up pretty good!

Mike also ordered some new OEM lug nuts from Beno (thanks @beno).

Some nice little additions, but we also needed them because the PO put on some skinnier lug nuts on his aftermarket wheels and the lug nut wrench in the factory toolkit wouldn't fit them! As much fun as that would have been to find out somewhere in the boonies, it's much nicer to have the factory lug nuts on there and to be able to change the spare in the field if needs be!!

For new tires, we opted to go with the BFG AT 33x10.5x15. We special ordered them through Costco tire center on the msinland. I bring this up because Costco tire center here in Hawaii said they cannot put on those tires because they exceed the factory recommended size. To get around this, some small white lies were utilized for the good of our 60's exterior beauty!
We brought the OEM chrome wheels we recently acquired down to Costco in my lifted 80 series with existing 33" tires. Told them they were going on the 80, but just needed them on the rims. They agreed to do it because the 80 already had 33's. We went back to pick them up in the 60, secretly hoping they knew exactly where they were going to be installed.

We installed all 4 and the spare at home. Also cleaned up and greased the spare tire chain and gear while we had it down.
They look great! Such an improvement over the old aftermarket wheels.

That looks great with the new wheels and tires.. are you running any spacer? And would you happen to know the backspace on the new wheels?

No spacers. And no idea what the backspace is on the new wheels....but to be honest, I don't even know what backspace on wheels are?? The ones I put on are the OEM 60 wheels, so I just assumed they would fit with no problems.

I've been wanting a set of the old wheels you had on your rig, but in black. However, after seeing how nice the OEM steel wheels look with 33" I think I've changed my mind. Your new set up looks great!!

:) Never mind that those wheels can't fit on an 80, and that 33's exceed factory size on an 80 anyway.... Sounds like Hawaii style, alright.

Backspacing is 3.5 inches (I think) for 60 series wheels. It's the distance from the wheel face that lug nuts go through (can't remember correct term) to the back of the wheel rim. So, if backspacing is too big, they will fail to clear brake calipers. I actually made this mistake on a vehicle once, and was quite surprised when it stubbornly resisted backing out of the garage.

While the caps are off, you should chrome them all... :D
Well, I am trying to get it back to a more factory look, and the only pictures I've seen for the caps have been black with gold lettering:

So that was the route I was going to go, but if you have seen them in different factory colors, I am certainly open to other options.

Nope, only came in black. My thinking was to mimic the early T caps with chrome. The caps you have now are still avail from Toyota for factory finish too and aren't very expensive.

I'm right with you on the factory look. You're cruiser looks way rad with the stock wheels. Also now that I see this picture I have to clean my caps up. Any idea how to remove them? Do they just slide in?

Looking great. Probably the cleanest 60 in Hawaii.:)

I had some of those originally that I was going to restore back to original:

Was going to paint them like these:

But think I decided to go with the black Toyota labeled ones since I believe they were correct for my 1985 year.

They have these little tabs on the bottom, looks like they pop right out if you pull on them.

Impressive. I've followed your 80 build too and I feel what started out as a "fling" with the 80 has turned into a serious problem. But I can't say anything, bought a second 80...
