These photos give an idea about the fit of the ambi doors...

First photo- the bottom of the doors are a bit too close, and the only inconsistancy in the lines...When I drilled the holes for the bottom latches I drilled them a bit larger than they needed to be so that I could have a bit of angle play, I should be able to just pull both doors out a bit on the bottom and fix that issue.

Second photo- The OEM seals....I have never seen anyone with stock seals that had this tab on the top of the ambi doors???? Is that supposed to be cut off?

Third photo- I am missing the bottom latch that holds both doors at an even position I believe that is why there is a forward gap....when the seals were off they lined up perfectly because there was no resistance....

Now to the front door issue:

first photo shows that the bottom and sides are now clearing fine and appear to be even (critique). Im not sure how much space they shoud have, so clue me in if that is wrong.

second photo- shows the bottom gap after being raised so it can clear the top of the tub.

third photo- same idea as secod

ok so I think this is why I have the gap at the top (still big enough to see through when sitting inside. The way I figure is this: since my lines on the bottom and sides are even, and the front of the top is right, I think my problem in this photo where that adustment is as high as it can go (this is where the accident happend where it was all bent and the painter fixed it) I think if I undo that screw and pull down and tighten it will close the gap...hopefully a whole inch worth!

I am guessing it has to do with you alum tub not being on perfectly straight..... so it effects it when it lines up with the cowl????

I thought I would snap a few pix of my rig's doors for you to compare. Mine is just a factory body, but it might help reference your door spacing...I did note that when I replaced my weather stripping, things changed a ton...for the better!

Cheers!

Sweet build BTW!

ugh see looking at those photos, (just put on the weatherstripping) it looks like all of my lines are correct except the top back...Even with the weather stripping there is still a small (maybe a centimeter) gap at the top back..and that is on the PS where the gap is alot better than the DS. meh

Those Ambi doors look pretty good all painted up there Eli. And I'd say the fit looks pretty close.

wow...looking great!

No, it's supposed to be there.

The big gap on the top of the doors below should be filled by the stock rubber seals. It doesn't look like they're in there yet? It freaked me out too, but the rubber filled it (barely).

Are you talking about the stock rubber seals that are cemented to the doors? I just finished installing that today and dont have picks up..from the outside it doesnt look much diferent, but from the inside it seems to be filled (for the most part).

Update;

Well Im sitting here realizing that I had a productive day on the cruiser because all of my fingers sting from the abusive little cuts that come along with working hard in the garage.

I spent a good half of they day playing with that damn gap at the top of the doors...after putting some thought into it, I drilled out the front door latches (slightly bigger than 1/2) so that I would have a bit more angle adjustment. This did help, slightly, but enough to make me say- aw puck it -and continue on to putting on the door seals. After securing the seals (reccomend 3M for that job....just be carefull because the yellow goop gets everywhere and doesnt come out!) I then began the task of measuring the latch placement and drilling and installing the latches...The doors latch and seal like a charm *cept for that small (maybe 1/4") hole at the top back*

This evening I got out the shop lights and took the old ambi doors, removing the old glass (original with teq symbol:cool:) and putting on the new OEM seals. Then had my little brother (10) help me install those into the new ambi doors. They look great!

Tmrow I will have to spend the majority of the day cleaning out the garage and packing per mothers orders....but then in the evening I will be meeting up with my FI guru to figure out that bothersome missfire.

If I have a chance maybe Ill go up one of the nearby mountains for a quick mud photo shoot! :)

I am stoked!

Ok so-

Last night we made one last push to get this thing tuned (since it was my last night in durango!)

We ran this fancy snap on diagnostics tool on each plug wire that told us the amout of spark etc..... that wasnt really getting us anywhere.

In the mean time this guy who has been helping me out was calling his buddys trying to find someone to use their truck to pick up his drag car that was just soda blasted (because it was looking like it might rain) I suddenly remembered that I had a hitch on the back of the 40...so we loaded up the trialer (20') and went to go get his car. On the way there we noticed that not once did it missfire, burp, or lose any power...just glided along smooth as can be. Got his car and drove back...expecting it to just be a fluke on the drive down...but allas, same thing.

After thinking for (not tooo long) we put these new facts together.

1. It ran fine when under a heavy load

2. When the computer senses a heavy load (such as towing) it will bump up the fuel map (richen).

SO based on those two facts...we decided to try to "recreate" that heavy load mapping as the main baseline.....

tured the main map ONE CLICK maybe 1/32 of an inch or something like that. And the truck has been running perfectly since, no st st studd studdering, no missfires, just running great!

I cant believe it was just one click!

After that we plugged in the closed loop system (O2 sensor) and double checked the performance....same thing.

Very excited...and just in time to move!

Well I we are leaving in an hour or so, so talk to you guys in Cali!

engine is torn apart again. backfired so hard that it blew off the aircleaner rod (snapped in half) and then sucked it back down into the engine and pinned itself down there...no apparent damage...taking it to the machineist soon to make sure everything is straight. I dont really have any time to tool with it since im in college now. I might be forced to sell it. Time will tell. :frown:
