haha yea

thanks mike.

got to hang with the TTORA annual somthing orother tonight..they had there big bash in a neighboring town...so I went over there to check it out. Marlin and his wife (of marlin crawler) were there along with a coprate toyota guy, (gave away a new TRD supercharger), shannon (the founder of TTORA) and buch of other guys (all pro etc)

was nice to get out to a toyota event without having to drive a long ways!

Ill post up photos of my rig as soon as I get it back tuesday morning.

... and the skinny pedal is being a **** bag

What the hell is that:confused:

haha

allright

Im going to make a video tonight...(hopefully...if I can find the charger)

We have made several attempts at tuning the projection unit, but to our best efforts it is still running way too rich...still puffing black smoke.

So my mechanic friend suggested that we take it over to his mentor who builds race cars, and used to be the main service manager at our local toyota dealership.

Turns out he has helped about 4 other guys tune the SAME exact unit...even had a spare manual! So as I would start to describe the problems, he would say "ohh we had the same issue and this is what we need to do"

We hung out there for a few hours and made a game plan.

He said that it is well worth getting the closed loop kit for the TBI, so I ordered that last night along with a new Lokar (sp?) throttle cable that is supposed to be able to contort into weird positions without binding.

They arrived this morning just in time for tonights tune. This guy that seems to know everything there is to know about tuning FI units voulenteered to weld in the bung for the O2 sensor and tune it in with me. Like I said ill try to make a video of the process so that if any of you guys run into simmilar issues this might help clear some of them up. (Also will make sure to get footage of the exhaust system that a few of you asked for a while ago.

didnt get a video made, but did have been making great progress

if anyone ever has a throttle cable that is being stubborn, I highly reccomend this unit http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10002_59058_-1

now its actually fun to drive and I have control over my acceleration!

we got the Otwo sensor in today...or atleast the bung, and right now we have a meter that tells us how its running....lean stoich etc.

ran some timing tests today to diagnose air fuel issues at different parts of the fuel map.

We will be adjusting based on those measurements later tonight..(hopefully)

hahaha yea for sure I was photographing some girls first solo flight for the local newspaper... were you in town?

yup, spending the weekend here, then heading out tomorrow.

I've seen quite a few 40s around here. I thought it was yours, noticed the shiny red paint and black stinger :D

Today we got the TBI;s main fuell map alot closer to being dialed in.

We did alot of poking around before actually changing anything...starting with timing diagnostics. The base was quite a bit off, @17, and with the vaccume plugged in we were maxing out the timing light with it running 50@2200 RPM... Ideally it should be running no more than 36 no matter what.

SO, first off we pulled off the dizzy cap, and removed the vac advance diaphram, then we welded a few beads into the hole where the vacume actually advances, greatly reducing how far it can advance. After taking it off and on a few times and hitting it with the timing light and shaving accordingly we made it so that the most it can advance is 36.

That helped alot, and the difference is HUGE.

Then we played with the air fuell mixture using a special snap on voltmeter deal that is some sort of crazy auto computer and can calculate all sorts of crazy stuff. From there we developed our basic main fuel map setting.

We also replaced the plugs and determined from their condition that it was running just about where we wanted it...not too rich like it had smelled.

More to come.

Ok. problems. Fixes. problems. fixes in progress (hopefully)

first problem; I have been driving the cruiser around for my work vehicle the last few weeks....seemed to be running better as time went on and more tuning was accomplished. Still to this day has the missfire but we have eliminated so many options that there isnt much left....so anyway I was driving down a rural dirt road on a photo assignment about 45 min away from our town and all of a sudden it just sputters and dies.... so I open the hood and fuell is POURING and I mean pouring out everywhere...I immediately grab my fire extinguesher (wow cant spell) in anticipation for the fuel to ignite on the hot exhaust manifolds... to my astonishment nothing caught on fire and I was able to blott up most of the fuel with my shirt. I took off the air filter and started it up while watching the injectors or any potential problem areas. As soon as I hit the starter button, a steady stream of fuel shot straight into the air from one of the injectors. On closer inspection I noticed the seal had blown around the thing causing the huge leak. Long story short I got AAA to take my rig home only to later find that the top retaining peice had simply come loose and let the pressure on the injector come loose...20 second fix!

problem 2; and current problem; first the good news- I got the hardtop on and the ambulence doors on too! Took about 5 hours to get them totally finished (oem weatherstripping etc) but it looks pretty dang good. Went to put on the front doors "real quick" and thats when I ran into issues. The drivers side door looked fine on the cowel side, but then the bottom of the door hit the top of the tub on the back side...and left a huge (1.5" or more
) gap imbetween the top of the back portion of the door and the bottom ridge of the hardtop. With a bit of work (scratched off a decent amount of paint that needs to now be touched up:mad:) I got it so that the bottom doesnt hit anymore....I also think that I solved the issue with the top, only I havent corrected it yet. If you guys can remember when I messed up the hardtop a while back prior to painting it and the whole left side was bent up...well the painter fixed it well enough that I had forgotten about it, but after staring at this damn gap for hours I noticed that it wasnt sitting flush....(ill stop with the descriptions here because I know without pics it wont make any sense) Anyway the doors are pissing me off and tmrow is my last day to really get some work done on the cruiser before having to start packing up the Uhaul.

I HAVE been taking a bunch of photos of this latest progress/lack of progress, and if I get a chance to get on a computer with a CF reader tmrow I will post up some so you guys can critique the body lines and give some advice.

tooo much chat!
