Congrats! But, why temporary permission to leave the country?
That's what my friend calls it. Shipper calls it "permit to leave country".

More parts rolled in. Trail-Tailor @reevesci front winch bumper came in today. Also pickup Napa reman front brake calipers to add to the pile.

In Costa Rica you need this document for your vehicle to leave the country. They assume that you come back from your trip with the vehicle.
In all their wisdom they call it a "temporary" permission. Just stupid. You can obtain this document only when the vehicle is clear of fines, loans, liens, claims, unsolved traffic accidents, etc. etc. etc.

Thanks Rudi!

Yeah it sounds pretty silly.

It was a busy weekend. I was able to prime the front bumper, paint front axle all the knuckle components, press in new wheel studs, and rebuild some manual hubs. I will paint the bumper hopefully tomorrow night. Best thing about this build is I have all the time in the world to do things right like prep and paint. Usually I'm in a hurry to get the vehicle back on the road.
All components and axle got Por-15 for paint except hub face which got regular rattle can paint.

The wife got to choose the dial color and she decided on black. I used a silver paint pen for the lettering.

Pressing in wheel studs with the HF 20 ton press. One of the best investments I've made for the shop. It paid for itself a long time ago.

I placed everything on one side of the shop to figure out if I have enough to room to park the 40 in the shop with my 80.

Update
No real news. Still waiting on the final document which is done and only needs my friends signature. Him and his wife had their first baby last Monday so the 40 understandably didn't receive any attention last week. This week is Easter holiday so all public employees, including the registry, get a week off.
In the mean time I am still researching and stock piling parts.

I had some time after work today so messing around in the garage a bit. I got the knuckles on the axel and then hit a stopping point. I need the shafts in to go further which would mean I need to install the 3rd back in. But I failed to add new studs to my last parts order so it will have till next weekend.

I also mounted winch to front bumper.

HOW COULD YOU FORGET THE LUGS? :slap:

HOW COULD YOU FORGET THE LUGS? :slap:
I was planning on reusing the diff studs and nuts but decided to just get new. If I was in a rush I could reuse them. A day soaking in vinegar would clean them right up if needed. I forget parts all the time when doing projects so it's nothing new.

Just for the hell of it I put the diff hardware in vinegar since I really didn't have anything going on. If it cleans up to my liking I will use them and finish the rebuild tomorrow or Monday.
This photo was around 10am.

And this one was around 2pm. Cheap and does the job. I'll let them soak overnight.

All the 3rd hardware cleaned up pretty good. After the vinegar bath I washed with baking soda and then soaked in PB Blaster. Should be ready to go later today after family time is over.

What are you guys doing when reinstalling studs on the diff? I assume they get some sort of thread sealer since they are exposed to oil. Locktite, FIPG?

I'm putting my 3FE back together and am using a dab of Permatex Ultra Black Gasket Maker on the several bolts that are installed in through holes into the block that are exposed to oil (e.g., fuel pump block-off plate).

I was making good progress today. I got the 3rd installed using sealant on the studs like @4Cruisers suggested along with some others while searching. Also used sealant and paper gasket for seal. When I got short side shaft and birfield put together and went to install I realized it didn't fit. I forgot to grind the ball so now both knuckles come back off. Not a big deal since I had to take them off 3 times when adding shim combos. Oh well, Walking Dead is about to start anyway. Here are today's photos of progress.

That third member looks a bit out of place with the spiffed up axle housing. But, I'm sure that it won't be long and you'll have it matching the housing. Everything is coming along good there, keep it up.
