The seats are coming out today, so I shall take those off to be re-upholstered this weekend. The roof is coming off this weekend too, so we shall see what the damage is like then.

I'm quite pleased with the work so far though!

How's this for some cool lighting....

I was trying to get some white EL lights, but the guy could only get blue. Ordered it on Monday, arrived yesterday and I've just done this quick mock-up by taping the light strip in. Once I've restored the cluster, I shall glue it in properly. I quite like the blue! It only cost MYR35 delivered - that's about US$10!

Our friend decided it was time for the persuader...

IMG_2310.jpg

As the persuader wasn't having much effect, it was time for the Big Persuader....

IMG_2311.jpg

That did the trick!

I LOVE restores in other "less fortunate" countries...they really know how to do it RIGHT! :D

Pearly,
Thanks for sharing.......
Enjoy rebuilding and am sure you gain a fair bit when is done....
Be prepared to spend many hours and trouble shooting along the way.

Still need to fine-sand and re-spray the cover, put the glass back in, redo the lettering, paint the needles....

The speedo needle had actually broken off when I bought the car - found it when I took the cluster apart! Glued it back on and waiting to paint it.

Looks good, I've seen a lot worse here, I guess they like bondo as much as they do here...I saw one the other day and it was beautiful, I got to tap the side and it sounded like a bass boat..The BJ's I have seen from there are some of the best looking I have seen anywhere in the world and they do some amazing stuff with them...your very lucky to be there...you live there permanently or are you going to try to take your BJ back to home when you leave?....Welcome...PS..Love the 70 turn signals

Wow thats some rust ... Great job on the cluster

Got home and found that the Letraset transfers had arrived, so just completed the cluster lettering...

Not quite perfect, but close enough for someone without perfect eyesight!

I never knew about those transfers... I might have to get some of those for a few projects. Looking good!

Double sided tape and then glued the EL light to that..

Not very pretty at the back though....

The +ve is soldered to the track under the backlight cover (without bulb). Put a blob of hot glue on it after that.

The cluster is not as good as I wanted it to be, but maybe I shall do it again..........not likely!

1 kilometer to go before zero - I did that to make sure the numbers lined up.
