When I was removing the first shock, the PO or someone used 3” cotter pins on the castle nuts…then to make it interesting they had bent the extra wire into a pretzel so removal was a 15 minute ordeal…anyone wanna learn a few new curse words?
I've started using nylock nuts on all those places to get rid of all the damn pins

Great suggestion….thank you

@wngrog they’ll be here Friday…

Here’s a question… I was going to place the shocks in position when I discover the shock tower pin is loose. So in looking to find a replacement I am having trouble finding the part number…. Anyone have some other information PHOTO LOWER RIGHT

Didn’t see how it was in there…or if I could tighten it…so I tightened it….done!

Also done with the front springs and shocks. Put the wheels back on and starting the rear tomorrow. I am glad the fronts had this shipping band on them. I don’t know if I’d have the strength to compress them had I released the piston before adding it on the pins. The caster shims are in with the new spring set.

@wngrog …what kind of grease should I be using in the shackle pins and fixed pins. The lube in the installation packets is almost like Vaseline

The little packs will tell you the type grease to buy. That and the little label in the bushing bags has the type. Can't remember

Pays to read that stuff

I have a bunch of steel scrap lying around. Trimmed a piece off and mounted the Sniper coil. @jhsmith ( thank you J) has provided a bunch of guidance to me and he used these isolation mounts.. I had a bunch left over from the more modern era of HD motorcycle restorations and they were too large so Amazon had these as he suggested in 1 day.

Looking to install the CDI box but space in the engine compartment is at a premium so still thinking that one. Painting the rear door is done, I’ll polish it in a few days but now ponder how to install the window and new weather seal. String or teflon spoons? I have never done this part before,

Anyone feel free to offer any suggestions

Thanks for documenting this! I'm in the process of adding the hyperspark ignition coil to my rig and I plan to mirror your bracket/platform setup. Looks great to me.

@MAR FJ40 …. Thank you to @jhsmith … he gave me a few great suggestions and some I just copied… it’s over 1 year now and all doing great! Good luck. My cruiser is running as better than any I have had over the last 40 years…God’s honest truth!

If you want any settings I am running…just say so.

I did use a few little rubber isolators for vibration under the firewall mount…not sure that it matters though

Thanks. Planning to use the rubber isolators in the ignition coil setup but I'm thinking I may mount the hyperspark ignition on the outside of the glovebox in the cavity just outside the speaker wall since it's unused space out of the way and is inside for a lil more heat avoidance. May not matter, dunno. I think that's where @zerotreedelta mounted his.

I was going to do this as well, but I didnt want to flex my arms and back, already weakened from age, to get in there…😉

One thought: ground!!

Y’all going to force me to relocate the box?… actually, I would truly have mounted it there…it’s a great spot, no engine heat, and as @zerotreedelta did mention before…it’s not a corvette and isolated from circulation.

The redeeming factor is that…I’d NEVER THOUGHT of making a mounting plate @zerotreedelta . I did not think about the possibility of tabs on the other side… including owning 5 other FJ40’s over the last 5 decades… sheesh! That may have made mounting it there a whole lot easier.

So, back to the Terrain Tamer… up at 5:30am to let 3 dogs out. Fully intended to get a good start before accompanying my wife to her 2nd doctors appointment again this week. Left at 10:00am and by 1 pm we were still out as the “ since we’re in this area” started.

I picked up all of the tools on the floor from the front getting completed, jack stands, floor jack etc.etc. Amazon shows up with @wngrog suggestion for nylock nuts to eliminate a few cotter pins. Placed them on the shocks and will continue going forward tomorrow.

While we’re running those extra errands, my wife goes into the Dollar Tree store for a few birthday and sympathy cards and I see those FJ40 hood protectors in a box…Tomorrow needs to be really productive

So at times I can read directions, look at the barely visible drawing and still get the assembly wrong

Does this seem like the correct assembly for the procar seat sliders? The ones that are included in their packaging or am I somehow adapting the original Toyota ones to the procar frame?

Back to try and finish the Terrain Tamer springs..front is all done, @orangefj45 called me and is helping me to get the steering stabilizer properly set up. I’d spent a lot of time cleaning the frame and axle then painting and letting that dry.. I did have a mother of a time positioning the spring pin properly in the perch on the axle. I could not budge the spring to get it to center in the top and the bottom. It was 1/8” too far forward. Left /right alignment was good. This helped me nudge it into place. Now onto the cotter pins on the shocks

Where there's will there's a way! You've about got this knocked out. Keep up the great work.

Thanks…that “will” is going to be 73. It was a real push to get 65lbs on the torque wrench for the u-bolts 😂
