Hi! IF you're willing to share, I thought it might be helpful for the rest of us to better understand what the market prices are for the 200 series (and LX 570 I suppose). I'm personally looking for one, have found a few, and curious what others' purchase prices have been so I can negotiate (or not) properly.

Please share purchase price, year, mileage at purchase, and location (east/west/south, etc...)

Thanks and happy hunting for those also looking.

@Big Timber Do you need a three row? For $73k, I'd recommend looking into a new two-row LX. Nalley Lexus in Atlanta is a volume dealer and would get you close to $75k. Get them to put it on a truck out to WY..

Thanks, but the deal is done. Really don't need three, but could only find one two-row without entertainment system. That's alright. I'm completely happy with this machine. If it can get me home through what I went through yesterday, it's well worth every penny (see my post on the washer fluid). Plus the two row would tempt my wife to put the dogs in the back. They are not allowed in the Lexus!

EDIT: If you haven't seen the Atomic Silver or the Cabernet interior, they are FANTASTIC! Really impressive in person.

Hey I am looking into buying an LX 570 possibly and I found one it is a 2008 with 162,000 miles on it. Dealership asking just under $27,000 and it is a 1 owner car.
They just got it in and are going to run it through the mechanic shop to see if anything is really off with it. Is this too high? Just trying to figure out what I really might be able to get it for. The interior and exterior look great in the photos. Thanks.

Depends....
What is the service history?
AHC been flushed every 60K?
Any rust?

At 162K there is a lot that could have been neglected or covered up. Since it's a one owner, you should be able to get most of the answers you are looking for.

I am waiting to hear about the mechanic. It is being sold by a Lexus dealership and it was a trade in and the description does say that it was serviced at the dealership. Don't think rust is an issue on it at all it has been in Texas since first being bought. The Carfax report isn't very descriptive though which I will ask about. When looking at a used Lexus at a Lexus dealership you would think that they aren't going to sell a customer a car with major issues....? But it is not a Certified Pre-owned and they state it is being sold As-Is.....

Go to the Lexus site and click on the owner's section. From there create a login and enter the VIN of the vehicle you want to know about. It'll pull up all the history from the servicing dealer. Did this on a land cruiser recently and found out that, even though it had a clean carfax, there was notes from the dealer about a rodent infestation not reported to carfax.

At 163K you can bet the radiator/water pump etc. have been replaced at least once. I'd try to find those records. Many times the dealers don't like to do AHC service. If it were me, I would have them print the service history or login to my Lexus and print it off yourself. Do a thorough check of the following:

  • Radiator cracks ($900)
  • Recirculation flap functionality in glove box ($300)
  • Shock fluid leaks or seeping ($600-$800)
  • Water pump leaks a seeps ($800)
  • Engine valley coolant leaks ($1500)
  • AHC Functionality - Test HIGH LOW and make sure you can feel a difference in Sport/Comfort modes ($???)
  • 4LO and CDL - Test 4 LOW and Center diff lock. Make sure no flashing lights or stuck CDL ($1200 or $20 if you are handy)
  • Parking break - Most won't hold on a hill (10 minutes with a 12mm)

None of these are deal breakers, but you can use the numbers as ballpark for negotiation. When you look over the service records, you should have major service intervals every 30K. You will want to make sure all of those are done. If not, you are looking at about 2-3K of base-line service (all fluids, spark plugs, etc.)

Yep! I recently bought an '11 at 165k, and everything looked to be in excellent shape with a clean radiator (old style, but no hairline at all) and dry water pump. However, after about 500 miles it had drained the coolant reservoir and I was in for a $1,650 valley leak repair (at a New England Toyota dealership.)

Reading through threads like this can give you an idea of what to look for re: signs of the valley leak. All you should need is a good flashlight and a dealer who doesn't mind you removing the engine vanity cover to peek down the right side of the intake manifold (seeing the left side requires breaking off some dirt-blocking foam pieces).

IMHO a little bit pricey. I have a 2009 LX570 in my area with 90K miles going for $26K.

Got a link or info to this one? Assuming you're not interested in purchasing it of course...

No, I already have an 08 with 88K miles so not interested.

It's located here in Guam. You will need to ship it stateside which I figure to be ~ $3K.

VIN#JTJHY00W794021723

Looks like mileage is lower that I mentioned: 87,079

Good luck!

Any idea on what a 2008 LC with 300k miles would be worth? It's my friend's wife's car, one owner, never been offroad. I'm thinking <20k maybe around 15K. Any thoughts what a fair price would be? Thanks in advance

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if she could pull 17-19k out of it in today's market. Even downmarket vehicles like 4Runners are going for thousands over blue book right now regardless of mileage. It's obviously not a perfect equivalent, but I recently sold an '03 V8 4Runner with 275k for $2.5k over KBB value ($7k selling price.)

Personally, if it's in genuinely good shape other than the mileage, I'd list it at 20k and see what kind of offers come through. I'd also think it would be worthwhile to list it up and down the I95 corridor Craigslist markets – New Englanders won't hesitate to pay top dollar for a low-rust truck in good shape.
