Hi! IF you're willing to share, I thought it might be helpful for the rest of us to better understand what the market prices are for the 200 series (and LX 570 I suppose). I'm personally looking for one, have found a few, and curious what others' purchase prices have been so I can negotiate (or not) properly.

Please share purchase price, year, mileage at purchase, and location (east/west/south, etc...)

Thanks and happy hunting for those also looking.

I'm in Kansas City, we're neighbors. I don't think I'm manly enough to pull off the brushguard look, I'd have a fear of being a poser since the most rugged terrain I'm going to cover is I70 west up into the Rockies.
Good Midwest deer deterrent.

Not sure if this will help anyone but I’m about to list my gray on black 2014 LX this weekend for $28,900. 103k miles stock with every service record of my 8+ year ownership. 2nd owner, perfect carfax with dealer service. Radiator preemptively replaced, ach lines done, tires (defender) and brakes fairly new.
Location?

I’m adding a data point that I missed out on an 09 recently that was clean with 160k for $23k. It had also recently had the suspension replaced.

It’s also making it hard for me to price an 08 with 260k miles. It’s rust free and pretty clean with the following recent work. What would you say is a fair price for this?

The seller has had it for 10 years since 200k miles and has extensive maintenance documented since.

-Newish BFG KO3 tires with 10k miles on them (warrantied up to 50k miles)

-Upgraded Bilstein 4600 Series Shocks

-Starter replaced at 260K

-Steering rack replaced at 258k

-Resealed coolant valley at 258k

-Front struts and control arms replaced at 248k

-Drive belt replaced at 227k

More data points and another decision for one to make.

All things being mostly equal: price, carfax, no rust, stellar maintenance histories, Texas cars, condition…which is the better buy.

2011 LX, 96k miles, black. 1 owner
2015 LX 155k miles, white 2 owner

newer the better...

Ugh, that guy is a douche canoe. He will sell it in the next 3-6 months. His whole schtick is flipping cars. I don’t see how his channel can be profitable with all the depreciation.

I also might be personally jaded as he sniped a low mileage HE from me back when I first started shopping for one a couple years ago. There was a Toyota dealer in Del Rio, Tx that had a black HE with delivery miles (less than 100) priced in the low 100’s. Although the idiot salesman I contacted was partly to blame for me losing out on that one.

I wholeheartedly agree. He probably told the sales guys he'd make them famous and that gave him the edge over all the other potential buyers. I absolutely hate flippers, even more if they're Youtube/Instagram flippers.

well they got some advertisement out of it too!

I'm sure offering $20k over ask had something to do with it

I've come across him before, and his channel(s) definitely falls in the category of "just go to therapy instead of buying stuff and yapping in to the camera." He not only flips cars every 5 minutes but houses too, always has a new justified reason to uproot his wife and kids to a new house.

It is all about the clicks. I used to watch his channel once in a while and he was crashing getting views when buying and trading-in over and over Toyotas, then he decided to stop and only do videos about the car market with ginormous titles saying IT IS OVER, WILL CRASH. ..BLAH BLAH.. I am sure his views tanked and now he wants to recoup that. I have owned a twin to this car and bought it for $81k with 32k miles. Totally worth it for that price and mileage. What is NOT worth it IMO is to buy like he did. $100k for this is crazy when you can add another $15k and buy a 700H OT with a generation leap ahead in terms of tech (but not overburdening) with the same tank-like, bullet proof construction (even with all the speculation about the 300 engine - which does not affect the OTs). We all know these are very reliable - especially the HEs being last year models that had lots of issues resolved - so, unless you are buying as a collector, just find a decent southern truck with 40k to 50k miles, pay around $80k for it and be happy with a reasonable purchase.

To me, some folks are bidding/buying cars in a price vacuum and getting carried away.

If you can stand the look of the 700H, I'd say yes, it's definitely a better buy for just a little more money. But most people, including myself, find the LX to be absolutely hideous. When we factor in the resale value of the LX vs the LC, however, things are not so cut and dry. I would be willing to bet money that the HE will hold its value much better than the LX700 a few years down the road.

I was like that, but I pushed past the looks since the ability of driving a triple locked land cruiser brand new was just too tempting. I traded-in my 200HE for the 700OT taking advantage of the prices people are paying for the 200HE. My trade was $1k more than what I paid for the car and when you count the tax savings on the trade, I ended up selling for $7k more than I paid. I used to hate the big old chin on the OT but have to admit it is growing on me, and I feel the 700OT even better built than the 200. Maybe because it is brand new and my 200 was pushing 6 years-old but the OT feels like a rock.

Comparatively, if the market craze continues, I agree the HE will hold more value, but ONLY for the low mileage ones. You can start to see the 50k miles plus HEs getting close to the Base ones in terms of asking price. These low mileage barn finds HEs are going to be more and more rare though. IDK, I tend to think in 25 to 30 years, these will be like the 80 series and, when checking the auction sites, the triple locked ones will carry a premium higher than the 200HE. Like, if you see today an anniversary edition 80 x a triple locked one, there is a big gap in how much people are willing to pay. Hope to see what happens.
