Today was a great day. Got my LowMax gears in the mail and picked up new set of wheels and tires. These Military MTRs have 95% tread and the set of 4, with wheels and rubber run-flats, for $500!! Got a smoking deal.

Congrats on the tires. I've been going back and forth on getting military tires or just getting one spare. My biggest things are finding a wheel that fits it, losing two inches of width and its cheaper to buy one spare tire than getting 4.

Losing two inches of width? What do you mean?

I'm going from a Toyota axle to this 14bolt, which adds something like 4" of track width to my truck. With these H1 wheels, I will be at the same, or a hair narrower, tread width with the new axle, since the H1s have 7" of backspacing. Recentered H1s can be anywhere from 2" BS all the way up to 7".

Sweet deal on the MTR'S!! Where did you get the gears?

Got the gears from http://jbconversions.com. Would have gotten their HD output too if it were in stock this month, or last, or the month before that

I meant the tires themselves are two inches narrower than the ones I have.

You have 14.5" wide tires? I'm finding that 12.5" wide is plenty for what I usually do with my truck.

Yeah mine are 14.5 in wide. I love the stance they give the truck. But they are bias plies and I don't want to drive them on the highway too much. So my dilemma is forking up the cost of one spare or getting 5 cheap military tires, but which will force me to go buy five 16.5 in wheels.

I got ya now. I really love these tires for highway driving. Nice and smooth without being too loud.

The tires are awesome and durable. But a pain in the ass to change because of how heavy they are with steel rims on them.

Yeah, they are heavy SOBs. They're lighter than the Pitbulls I used to have so it's not a big deal in my book. I don't intend to change them out that often :D

Whoa, yesterday was my birthday but you got all the cool stuff !!! hahaha

That's a great deal on the wheels/tires. Phoenician was telling me about them and I started looking at the 16" variants which could be run on stock 80 series rims.

Davegonz, we need to hook up your trailer one day and drive to one of the stores and hand pick a set.

Happy belated birthday!!

There are a lot of good military tires for a 16" rim. I was initially planning on sticking with 16" rims after getting rid of my Pitbulls, but I fell into my Military-OZ trade with 16.5" tires. That combined with the fact that I've lusted after H1s for years meant that I'm sticking with 16.5" wheels. The 14 bolt and these H1s are all happening at the right time :D

I think two sets of those tires would easily overload my little Bantam :)

Sorry for the hijack Johnny, I found 4 brand new bfgoodrich tires rated e for $700. Now I just need a good deal on wheels and I'll squeeze the trigger. Hijack over, resume all normal operations. All first responders and participants report to the command center for debriefing.

No worries brother!! Pick up a set of those tires, sell your current set and then you'll have recouped your money.

That's the plan. Just need to pay off a few things first.

Here's a question for you guys. I need to buy another battery, or a pair of batteries, to run my Ready Welder for this weekend's fun. Should I buy another Sears Platinum battery to compliment the one in my truck or should I buy a pair of cheap batteries to run the welder off of? Cost would be the same in either case.

They each have their merits. Buying a pair of cheap batteries is convenient because you won't need to disconnect your truck battery if you need to weld and those will be your welder's power source back at home. On the other hand cheap batteries don't last as long and that good price adds up when you have to buy cheap batteries a couple of times.

Buying a nice battery to complete your two battery set up in your truck is a direction you probably want to go anyways and most of the time that battery will be used for other accessory demands in the truck. However you will need to disconnect these batteries from your electrical system to use them as a 24V supply for your welder. I had thought of some elaborate way of connecting and disconnecting from the electrical system and ultimately decided it was just easier to disconnect my batteries if I ever need them for my welder (which thankfully has been rare on the trail).

Ultimately I like having both, a dual set of batteries in my truck that I can use with the weld if needed and a set of batteries at home that I use as my normal power supply for the welder.

The question for either set up is how are you going to charge these batteries?
