The PO had installed an electric fuel pump. It was tossed and an new OEM fuel pump was put in with OEM filter......

The heater is something he wanted to work and it had been eliminated. I got an OEM heater valve and ran new hoses. The rear heater is no good so I capped off the inside heater hoses. The heater cable is not great. I'll see if I can make it work. It is stupid how much new ones cost. I ran out of hose clamps....I'll fix the valve clamps.....

New battery box installed

IMG_0228-X2.jpg

The box is designed for an optima and the top won't fit right with the battery that came with the truck. If it keeps its charge, it will be fine. If not, we will replace. New battery terminals, new cables, new master hot wire.

I hit my first snag today when I installed the new battery cable on the alternator and the housing busted. I will have to replace the starter. This one worked fine but the plastic was brittle and crumbled when I tightened the new cable. I will be installing a gear reduction started since I have to be in there. They are the best.

Lastly, I got the spare tire carrier hung and the spare installed. It will be in the way when I reinstall the top, but I had to have it on there. Looks so good.

So I was able to meet the new owner yesterday @ducksntrout

He and his son flew in from Atlanta to do some fishing and check in the camp so they stopped by and admired the progress. Last night the @Racer65 carburetor came in so I knew today would be productive.

Old carb off......

I cleaned up some wires on the electronic ignition and gear reduction starter.

I robbed my 68 motor for this fuel hard line

IMG_0315-X2.jpg

It took me about 2 hours to get the linkage correct in the throttle. I ended up drilling a hole in the new carb to steady the plate.

I decided since the tranny cover is off I wanted to go ahead and put a new clutch in this thing while I've got it here so I did not put the cover back in over the tank.

And it drives. Nicely. Very nicely.

This truck has 4 wheel drums still but they had been rebuilt in the last century and they stop nice

All good on the test ride. All I had was a hose that I had not replaced on the heater leaking I let it cool down, replaced then hose and refilled it.

Seeing that pretty new fuel system reminds me...make sure you talk to the new owner about keeping non-ethanol gas in that rig when sitting for prolonged periods of time at duck camp. #s***'lleatupthemlinesanddiaphragms

We discussed. He was aware.

Some people love pretty painted Cruisers. I like em dirty looking. This one turned out better than I can believe. I just love the look.

I picked up a 74 a few weeks ago in Lafayette and and I am a few weeks behind this build. It's like having the proverbial carrot dangling in front of me. Thanks for the motivation!

Looks good! Glad that GR starter worked out for you.

Vaery nice!

That 40 should be a daily driver not tucked away at some camp and only driven a couple times a year. That part makes me sad

Nolan, when you sprayed on the bedliner did you use it straight or did you thin it?
