So from the bridge, I wanted to try to stay on gravel as far as I could. I crossed west to east and the road turned into Levee Rd and headed north toward Coldwater River NWR. I passed an open gate on the levee and texted my buddy Travis that is the king daddy Federal Game Warden supervisor for this area if it was OK if I went through the gate.

I did not hear back so I peeled out......I went 23 miles down the levee on the west side of the little Tallahatchie all the way to Highway 6 just east of Batesville. Unreal drive.

Travis got back to me and said that gate is always closed. It is owned by Jim Kennedy owner of Cox Communications. He frowns on people that drive the levee.....no fear, I found an alternate route that stays gravel.....

At Highway 6 I ran into a guy that works for the MS DOT on roads and asked him about gravel roads to Memphis. He gave me a few tips, but mostly he said the roads in this are were all paved. I asked for a backward route and we settled on one that got me to Tunica.

Here are some highlights to Tunica..

I think Chris should put a Landcruiser on a Pole like this at a rakish angle in front of 49 Tire.....

This place has been on my radar so I took the most direct, backroad route to it. They have @dnp approval milkshakes.....

When I got to the end of the road, the fastest way was to take a right, hit I-55 and go to Memphis. It was 5:00 at this point so I saw no reason to get to Memphis.....so I took a left back into the Delta.....

I envy your time and wander-lust ability and it's clearly infectious to the rest of us.

Can I just ride with you some time.... Incredible!

We do a fair amount of work that gent, here in ATL. About 10 years ago he had us build him a private hunting lodge out in the middle of some wetlands. Apparently he tried local contractors and they f'd up the layout and foundation so bad that we came in and tore it all out - started over. I can't pinpoint exactly where the York Woods lodge is located, but its near Charleston MS. I got to go out and take pictures of it from a 60 ft cherry picker when it was done. I'm not at liberty to say what it cost, but nothing was spared. Even built its own pump house to supply the sprinkler system. It's built like a tinderbox.

OK.....so, I found a pretty cool road at the bottom of that hill that is the levee road on the Coldwater going south. I will scout it another time but it could go 50+ miles if it is not blocked anywhere.

At this point my options are to head back into the hills or head over to the river. I chose the river. There is a park up north of Tunica that you can drive over the Levee and check out the River. It's cool. Nortfolk road.

Finally, I was at the state line about to head to Memphis....it was about 6 pm and I was not hungry at all since I was not hungry when I got the milkshake but had to eat it anyway......

I saw a sign for Delta Bluffs Scenic Roadway so I took it even though it went south east and I needed to go North.

Immediately I saw that I needed to bust out the Drone and fly a bit. Too cool.

So that was it. I got to Memphis about 14 hours after I left my house versus the 3 hours it normally takes. Called on 3 major customers. Ate at 2 awesome joints, met some cool folks, tresspassed a bit and put two major sections to my Backroad Mississippi map together. Hope yall enjoyed the trip. I did.

Damn...all that in one day?? Awesome.

It helps to have a couple places I HAVE to be. Greenville is my favorite because it is just one doctor. My most important so I go 2-3 times a month and that is usually all I have to do on that day so I get to wander. Adding Memphis to the day is long but I have to be here today for a lunch appt with my second most important doc.

This bridge tho........

O U T standing

My mother is from Charleston, Pawpaw was the John Deere dealer, banker, planter, rancher. I grew up duck hunting the Talahatchie Lease in the York deadening, amazing natural duck draw, all the high tech changes haven't improved the duck hunting, I miss those days but thank you for reminding me!!!
You drove right by Frank Yergers new place next to the York woods
