I worked I would say 5-6 Hours last night and here is what I got done...

Started out by installing my dowels in the fly wheel I got from Cruiser Dan…. I bolted up the fly wheel and got the clutch all aligned and bolted in place…

Pretty easy especially since I have done this all before…

Rent a tranny jack for around 15 bucks at your local rental center. Those things are great!

Good luck...

Loosen the clutch back up and wiggle the disc around with the centering tool. Then hold the disc in the center of it's "wiggle area" to get it exactly centered up w/ the pilot bearing. Tighten a couple of bolts, let go of the aligner and torque down all six of the PP bolts.

While the tranny is on the floor, really clean up the pilot snout of the input shaft. Use 320 grit sanpaper and WD40 if necessary. Then clean it w/ carb cleaner and lube w/ a dab of of grease or 90wt.

Get some long transmission sized bolts, cut the heads off and slot the ends, to make screw dowels out of them. Thread them into two diagonal holes of the BH as guide pins.

Now start the tranny into the clutch, then get it on the guide pins then slide it home into the pilot bearing. Install 2 bolts, then remove alignment pins and install last 2 bolts.

Done!

Thanks Jim!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought of the bolts idea but the only think I had was ones off the engine stand that were that long but I think those are the wrong threads correct???? I need a fine thread correct?

I think the tranny bolts are fine thread.
Take one to the hardware store and match it up.
Or steal some bolts out of another cruiser.

spent the weekend with Poser at his place.... Had a great time.... picked up a ton of parts from him... also bought some jump seats and a dash from MILLHOUSE..... Lots of people in Steves shop on saturday... He is really busy.... Everyone wants their truck ready for summer..... I did as I did last time mostly just looked over his shoulder ask questions and what not as he was working on my stuff and others trucks.... we were in the shop until 2:30 AM!!!!!! We got back there this morning about 8:30 as I had to be going at about 11AM... and we had not finished up everthing from my list... I just took some general pic of my parts as everything will be more layed out and detailed as I go about putting things on... main stuff I picked up was the late 40 (of a 1983) series knuckle upgrade...

It was truly a great time and like last time I was down there I learned a ton... had a great time and cannot wait to go down there again!!!

first pic is of my SI loaded down.. I had the trunk full but took some stuff out before this pic...

second pic are the jump seats from MILLHOUSE.... over all in really good shape... thank man!!!

Here is one reason why I really love Steve working on my stuff.... He is so detailed and does s*** "right".... He does not cut corners and takes the extra time to make it look as good as it works... I know he does not just do this for me. He knows I am not trying to cut corners on my build and I dont like half assing anything. I think that we get along good that way as we both feel as if you are here and you are doing it... then do this and this and make it right or you will have to take it apart again.....

look at the pics below for a perfect example of what I am taking about... here is the rear half of my wiring harness.... it was in tough shape..... I could not plug my tail lights in because the connectors were gone... I could have cut all the wires twisted them together and black taped them, or better yet sawder them and use shrink tubing. both would have worked just fine. but Poser installed these new GM connectors... They look so clean and it is really a quality workmanship...

I would truly recomend his work to anyone!!!

The only thing I did when I got home was throw that dash on from MILLHOUSE it is in about 80% good cond. so I am happy with it... got a good deal on it also... :D

MILLHOUSE also helped me take the hubs off a 60 that I am going to be putting on my truck... took the time to give me a little hub 411 so that was great also... Thanks MILLHOUSE!!!

oh yeah figured it out right away... looks as good in person as it does in pics!!! really!!! took some great pics of the engine and how you set up your PS pump, different than mine... I like yours better... I will be changing mine to match yours...

ohh yea, btw that thing corners like it is on rails!!! :D :flipoff2:

My buddy Ted came over last night and we got that Tranny in!!!! I was pretty happy... I worked on it again by myself on Monday night with no luck... I did pick up a cherry picker so that helped out a ton... I just think it is a 2 man job with the lift... anyhow it is done and I am glad.... I still need to adjust the slave but I will do that when I put fluid in the system... I watched Steve do this on a truck when I was down there last week so it sould be no problem for me..

Nothing else done after we got tranny in we partook in some adult beverages and went to the local watering hole and had some dinner and cocktails... good times all around...

No pics as I forgot my camera at the office...

ok today I also put a few coats of primer and three coats black paint on all my front brake parts I bought from Poser... In true Poser fashion all the parts were sand blasted and free of any grease or rust.... Like I would expect from him top notch quality or he would not have sold them to me.. There was no extra charge for sand blasting, he quoted me a fair price and I said go.. and picked up the parts and that is how they came.... I was very happy and impressed to say the least! Just another example of the high standard he has...

anyway here are a few pic of the painting.. I wish I would have taken pic of before I painted but I did not.. you will have to look back to the pics in the back of the SI......... They turned out nice and I am really happy.... Going to paint calip. next and then start putting this thing together... I have to say I am not scared just not looking forward to doing this just because I know how big of a mess and PITA this will turn out to be... More to come...

ok just a general question and if I dont get a response I will post directly on the 40 section...

here is my cap on my valve cover... is this OEM??? There are no screw in or anything it just sits on there, the cap is heavy and I dont see how it could come loose or bounch out of there (short of flipping the truck) as it fits that nice. I just have not seen anything like this...

I payed special attention to all the trucks I saw at Steve's place last weekend and did not see one like this... so I am wondering....

Thanks!!
