These in the early days Toyota produced rims are all made for tubes.
My 45 can came with 7.50 x 16 steelies and tubes in when I bought it in 2006 ( Michelin tyres diagonal & tubes bought new radial tyres in 2007)
Always run tubes.
Why should I take a risk & run without tubes?
Current shoes bought in spring made in Japan and mounted on new J7 for Africa.
Needed other tubes the J7 tubes have different valves don`t fit vintage J4 steelies.

Okay. Talk to me about how the dome light should be wired.

Mine isn't working and it's not the bulb .

I know the wire that goes to it plug in here.

As best I can tell when the switch is in this position it should be off

And in this position it should be on

On the back there are two terminals. I assume one of these runs to the wire that plugs in near the windshield. Which one?

Does the other run to a ground? Or is it left alone?

The wire goes to the right side terminal, I'm not good with electrical put the switch when it is touching the screw grounds and completes the circuit so you want the 12v wire on the opposite i.e. the right terminal in your pic.

Beat out by Whitey again!

Also I've put probably 15 sets of new tires on old cruiser rims over the years, only needed tubes twice due to rust/pitting inside the rim.

Simple power wire to your loose terminal, and it grounds when you close the switch.

Interesting. I had it wired like that at one point, but no luck getting any light. Fuse perhaps? Is it on a fuse?

The wire enters a loom after it goes through the top of the windshield frame. I've been able to find that particular loom under the dash, but it's not clear exactly where it ends up.

You need to have the light knob turned to the left for either the running lights or headlights I believe to get power to the dome light. Again electrical is my weak point so don't hold me to it. Easiest thing to do though if you have a electrical meter is make sure you have continuity in the bulb and housing when the switch is touching the screw head. If that is good you either are not grounding where the housing is bolted to the roof cap or you aren't getting power to your 12v wire coming it. Can you test the incoming wire to make sure it's getting 12vs to the lamp?

Success! Apparently during one of my failed wiring configurations I blew the lighting fuse. (15A, top location).

Popped in a new one, wired it up correctly, and voila!

Also FYI @ClemsonCruiser, you don't need to have the headlight switch on. This works independently of that.

More electrical today as well. Feeding my desire for some more modern niceties, like a place to charge my phone. I installed an auxiliary fuse block. Ran from the battery to a 100amp breaker, then to a 95 amp fuse panel. Just one circuit for now (DC lighter plug), but may add more later (stealthy hidden audio system, interior winch controls, who knows?)

Well now that I have that fuse panel I started doing some research. I came up with a REALLY sneaky idea to add a sound system that if you didn't know it was there you'd never know about it.

Motorcycle Bluetooth speakers with inline volume control and aux input, easily hidden, and an oem looking push pull knob for the dash to turn it on/off

Parts should be here Friday. Excited to see how it turns out.

That's been the general consensus I've seen on Land Rover forums as well. Like I said, I'll just keep an eye on things. I'm sure it will be fine .
Just a quick step in an australian LR forum & found this.
LR have different rims tubes only & tubeless !

130's are supplied new with 'tube only' (Part no. ANR5593)rims but you can buy the same rim marked 'tubeless'( Pt#ANR4583)as well. You may have insurance issues in the event of a crash if you use your 'tube only' rims without a tube, but I hear some people claim to have succesfully done so. I believe import is the way if you want a set of tubeless rims.
Don.
130 tubed wheels / tubeless tyres?

Again these old LC rims are made for tubes.

Ok. Regardless I've chosen to run mine tubeless as have apparently many others without issue.

This isn't a true split rim which would definitely need to have tubes, it's just not an 'ideal' setup with the potential to leak around rusty rivets.

I'm ready to move on from this topic.

Ok one more LR rims.
Let me just say there is a difference in construction between tubeless rims and tube rims.
Found another write up.

Extrat from the link above:"....So why did I buy a tubed rim? The consensus is that you can fit tubeless tyres to tubed rims with tubes..."

You can run what you want but I wouldn´t drive tube rims without tubes.

We don`t talk about split rims or vintage wire wheels they both need tubes too...
...in vintage italian, english or german sport cars.

Why have you asked a day before ?

...throw some money in 5 tubes and buy the Ferrari shares later. :)

Extract Land Rover series parts book. LR series were built until 1983
and the later Defender came with tubed rims too.... see above.

Very cool can’t wait to see the install and hear your review. Got a link to the system you bought?
