Hi all and thanks in advance, before I pull any thing apart I wanted to double check to make sure that the top of the hose was the top up manual transmission fluid reservoir? Toyota land cruiser hj61 12ht 1988

I think someone put that in to deal with a bad seal between trans and TC. It allows the fluid to equalize.

Yes. Remove the fitting on the top to add fluid. Houston is correct as well. The hose you see is not a factory item. It connects the fill ports of the trans and the xfer case to equalize. When the seal goes bad the xfer case has a tendency to pump its fluid up into the trans. The trans overfills and the xfer case runs dry. You should remove the fitting on the other end to top off your xfer case fluid while you're at it.
