My 1997 LX450 would occasionally over the years have an issue where the HVAC (all of it - heat, ac, fan, etc) would not do anything until I pushed a few buttons on the controller and then it would work fine.
Fast forward to now - I got the it back from being in the body shop (left rear quarter replacement, painting, etc) for a few months and now I don't have any heat, ac, or fan at all. The air distribution buttons work and you can hear the motors moving in the ducts. However, none of the other buttons work - A/C, Auto, fan speeds, etc.
So I started going thru the FSM but jumping around bit based on previous posts on the forum for the most likely causes. I tested the heater relay and it seemed to have higher resistance than it should across two of the terminals so I replaced it but it did not make any difference. I checked the fuses and they all look fine - other than the one in the "STOP" socket was partially melted (weird) so I replaced that.
Since many people have had problems with the system amplifier under the driver's dash I pulled it. It actually looks visually fine - no signs of moisture on the connector and around the entire top - I did not open it. I started checking the harness as described in the FSM but I'm getting all kinds of errors which makes me think I'm not doing something right or there is something very obvious wrong that I'm missing.
I would appreciate any input or pointing to other posts I may have missed that would be of help. Also, any suggestions on probe attachments that will make checking the amplifier from the back of the connector (as described in the FSM) when attached to the harness doable since the harness is so short and you can't get the probes up in there and actually see what terminal you are putting them in.
Thanks in advance.
Brian
