Ok, on the way to drop the 40 off at the exhaust shop this morning... Front wheel fell off... WTF!

Dogs went crazy last night, I should have got up to check things, but didn't...

No real damage, as it fell off as I pulled into the drive, disc got scuffed, but no damage.

Needless to say, I checked all other wheel nuts when I got it back together.

Exhaust should be done this morning, then I can swing past Dynamic Engineering so I can get Chris to make up some brackets etc.

Nothing much is more annoying than scumbags crawling around your property at night trying to steal things.

What brackets is Chris making for you?
Bugger about the wheel. Here we shoot the little bogans who do that and they never do it again :-) when my cruiser was broken into in Adelaide I sure wished I'd seen him.

Josh,

Lucy's going to be in off the street from now on, so hopefully we will not have any more problems.

I had a chat to Chris last week about getting the following:
ARB bar off the front (temporary measure to removed rusted/missing bolts),
Power steering reservoir mount on intake manifold,
Main battery tray modifications,
Accelerator cable mount (on valve cover), and
A/C compressor mount.

Then I'll chat to him about one of their snorkels and air box for when I sort out the turbo manifold.

No, most imigrants to America simply walk across the border from Mexico. The seemingly endless queue of immigrants from South Africa, however, face a much longer swim and generally buy property here to obtain a visa first:grinpimp:

Dan: Chris told me that he pretty impressed with your swap. I think that he is a bit jealous(c: I know he has been looking for a 13by for some time like me.

While you are there, pester him to finish that sealed bearing bell crank. He has been working on it for months and I WANT ONE!

I thought most of SA get as far as Perth and stop there?

I was surprised when I found that the Sthrn Kings were from Eastern Cape, I thought It was another Perth team!

Josh, will be giving Chris a call today with a view to swinging past.

He has been banging on about a 13bt for ages, but I know game has other plans first. Will see what his priorities are like after today!

There are loads in Perth for sure (so many that there are entire areas of Perth which sound more like South Africa than Australia... makes one wonder if there are any Afrikaners left in South Africa).

Here in Santa Fe there are hundreds of Afrikaners (and the town is only 58,000ish). It seems those from Jo-burg love it here because of teh high altitude, landscape and freedom; reminds them of back home. A number of our mates here are Afrikaners - they are great fun.

Chris knew this would be the gig when he got married... but he could not resist. Poor bugger:ban:

Folks from Jo-burg usually love it anywhere ! Capetonians are bit more fussy :D

Dan, them Kings are such a mixed bunch they could just as well have been based in the centre of the ocean

Been a bit quite on the forum lately - trying to get my ducks in a row and look for a new long term project.

This is what I have found - hopefully I can organise a car trailer for the weekend and then I'll be off to Melbourne to pick it up.

Well that's news to me Josh!

So an FJ40 has a fuel return line back to the tank!

Pardon my ignorance ... but why?

Looking at the EPC, sure enough, it shows 2 lines .... but neither tees into a separator line (nor does one tee into the filler vent either for that matter). The TUBE SUB-ASSY, FUEL TANK SUCTION (or what I'd call "fuel pickup") is different between the FJ4# and BJ4#.

So there's another option for Dan ... Fitting an FJ40 Fuel pickup.

Tom do you perhaps have simmilar pic/diagram from the EPC to indicate the filler into tank and evaporater plumbing of the BJ vs the FJ ? I just bought a TOY "checkvalve" which Olive never had when I got her and I need to figure this out.Any help will be most appreciated. Sorry for the highjack Dan.

Josh,

What can I say..... I dont really have any updates to provide just yet. I am still trying to get across to see Chris, but with the start of school, and a massive amount of work, time has been against me - then of course, we just had the Clipsal, so traffic was a nightmare in and around the city.

I have been looking at some autometer gauges, prices from the US are much cheaper then buying locally so they are on the list. I've also been in touch with Graham (gbentink) about one of his Grunter stage 1 turbos running 15-24psi - which would be perfect, so I am adding that to the shopping list too (along with the 14B manifold that I'll get from Toyota ex Japan).

It's all adding up, so I have to prioritise .... And of course our trip to the US.

What's with Chamba - are you going spiritual?

Let me knew if you need me to get any Autometer stuff and post it to you: too easy.

I don't miss the Clipsall. From our house it sounded like a hornets' nest in the attic. I worked by you, so getting to work was hell.

Just had a chat with Chris. He's going to machine some badges for me out of 1/4" aluminium.

I sold my hj47, so keeping the name seemed wanky. Chamba is the name of my father's sail boat, so I used it.

Looking forward to your visit.

Josh,

Thanks - I got a price through an eBay seller. I'll send you an email as I'd probably only get the tach and pressure gauges first and once I have the turbo, I'll get the egt and boost.

I know it's a way off but I could bring some of Chris's Work in our luggage.

I thought you were going to keep patches forever.... It's not selling, it's transferring responsibility.

I had her for 16 years, but I'm glad she's gone to a good home. Having one cruiser is enough for me; at least until Liam is a bit older and I've got more time to wrench and 'wheel.

Hi Theo.

From what I can see, the tank, filler neck, and fuel-evaporative separator are all identical between petrol (FJ40) and diesel (BJ42) models (V for "van" models that is) of the BJ42 era. (Although the fuel cap may differ, but even then - I think only on some models and probably just to provide the word "diesel" and/or for "key-security".) The only real difference there appears to be the fuel pickup tube where the petrol model has the addition of a fuel-return tube that allows un-needed extra-fuel to splosh back freely into the top of the tank.

And this is what the EPC shows for that:
TankNeckSeparator.webp

And here's zooming in to show the check valve that I think you're talking about on the evaporative separator:
CVzoomIn.webp

I guess the line from that check valve is the one that opens out inside the LH chassis rail on a BJ-series?

And just to really run roughshod over Dan's thread :D....
here's how the evaporative separator is piped in one part of Oz for an FJ40:
FJ40aus.webp

And here it is again modified to suit the beaurocrats (I never could spell that word .... is it right ... who gives a shhh...t) in another part of Oz:
FJ40aus2.webp

And here's the simpler BJ version:
BJgeneral.webp

Hope this helps....

That nsw and vic fiche is the same as US spec I think. This is because the bureaucrats (ha ha!) in the said Aussie states had imposed similar emissions requirements by this time to their Seppo counterparts.

Of course, Aussie bureaucrats have taken it to a whole new level today, where back then they merely idolised and envied the American bureaucracy. In true Aussie form, they punched above their weight until they outdid every other rational government.
