Something missing? Anyone guess?

I guess that I didn't have a great look at it before purchase, but it is still in fairly neat condition for an '82

Something to do with hanging the fuel tank?

Nope, not that I know - yet. I did go out to the shed to check Lucy though....

Things I'm learning along the way;

1) PO hacked the cross member for the floor,
2) Was setup to run straight LPG,
3) There are 100's of holes to weld,
4) Rear wheel guards have been trimmed, not sure how much, and
5) There are already a few snapped bolts.

All in a days play

Hi Dan
If you need any photos of what a 1982 Tub should look like just ask and I will photo.
Mine is getting close to top coating.
Good luck and keep the photos coming.
Cheers

Thanks Peter,

Both of my LX tubs are '82, I should have most of the answers there when I compare the two.

I was wondering what I should do about the 'fixed' side of the door hinges - your photo answered my question (off they come)!

Your tub is looking great, I hope mine looks as good as yours does when I'm at that stage. A while off now I think.

BTW - found out that the blaster is not going to etch prime... That leaves me stuck as to what to do. Am thinking that I'll have to coordinate the whole drop off, blast and collect within a few days. If only I had your rotisserie!

At this stage though, work on both LX tubs will halt until I finish off the 55 and move it out of my shed.

Dan

Hi Dan
Why don't you do your tub repairs then sodium blast.
That way the old Toyota paint is still protecting your tub.
Also do you really want to remove all the Toyota grey primer?

The rotisserie why don't you buy one and resell when finished.
Mine cost me $800.00 if I get $700.00 back I'm way in front.
I could not have got the high finish on the tub with out one.
I'm due to come to Adelaide sometime next month , would you like to catch up?
Took this photo today . No bog in this panel . Just Toyota steel and primer.
Cheers Peter

Peter,

The reason I'm contemplating the sand blast is that I want to be able to remove the chalky seam sealer, and ensure that the surface rust that is showing through is gone. Then I'll tape off and redo the seam sealer, re-prime, cut & replace steel where required.

I'm planning on doing it once, doing it right, taking my time - when life permits.

Adelaide next month? Definitely catch up for a beer or two.

Hi Dan
The sealer is so easy to remove.
A hot air gun and the right shape O ring picker .
Finish the job off with a wire brush.
The local Panel and Paint shop sold me a product called Rustmaster. ( made in Australia ) This product you paint on the seams . Very runny so it flows well along the seams. This is a clear product and drys rock hard. It converts any surface rust and can be painted when dry.
I'm sceptical about these so called rust converters but after talking to the chemist who put this stuff together I'm sold.
Check out there web site and make up your own mind.

Nothing to report, except that I've had a chance to move the lawn ornament into the shed.

At least I'll be able to remove some of the check plate in the current position.

Hi Dan
That tub sure does look better rust wise than the original .
What's under the checker plate?
Will be interesting to see the tub floor after you have removed the black tar. That's a good job for husband and wife bonding!
Keep the photos coming.
Cheers

With the 55 just about ready to have the LPG recertified, work has started on theLX again.

Albeit not much work.

Well, slowly but surely, I'm back on to it again. Hoping that I'll be at home a lot more this year so that I can make more progress.

Started work to remove the seam sealer before the tub gets blasted.

Going to try to get all of the panels etc etch primed by the end of February.

Seems to be bolted and welded
