Hello all-
I am looking at an '82 60 that I think I can get for a good price. It has some of the common roof rust at the rear, but the fenders and rockers look pretty clean. Haven't crawled
under it yet. Driver's fender needs replacing. It does run, passed recent smog, but does need some work. I'll be posting here for advice and help from you all. This site comes highly recommended by a couple of friends, so thanks in advance!

Buying a affordable 60 can be a dream come true or a fast slope money pit nightmare. Depends on what you can do yourself and what you pay to be done. Check the frame , mostly from the front post of the rear leaf spring to the back.

Depends what you want to do with the truck too !!

Normal wear and tear is to expect ... But surprises also ;). They are good and reliable but they are getting old.

Have fun , welcome !

Mine's an '82 as well. Plan on a lot of clean up and maintenance catch up (these things require constant attention, even if just sitting in the garage--leaks seem to develop out of nowhere, even after they are "fixed"). They're fun trucks to drive and getting rare, and if you can do alot of the work, and enjoying doing so, they are a good distraction when you need that.

So a forty-three old vehicle constantly needs attention and/or repairs. As Garfield stated above, stuff goes wrong for no apparent reason. If you are industrious and love, love, love working on old trucks - then buy it now! Also this is a great forum to help you learn along the way! Please understand I would never part with my rig, but I have a sickness and common sense has long left the station.
Good Luck!

Are you able to get/post more pics?

I would prefer rusty rockers to a rusty roof. If you do a search of this forum, you will find threads showing rusty roofs and how people have addressed them. It's a lot of work, because often the inner structure is rusty as well. So then you're looking at dropping the headliner, etc. Quite a pain.

Also: maybe it's a trick of the camera, but I don't see a body seam where the fenders meet the front valance under the grille. There should be a pretty obvious line there. If it's missing, it could mean that someone has done some bad bodywork and welded/filled that seam? If so, it could potentially turn what should be a relatively simple operation (unbolting a fender) into a major undertaking. I once bought an FJ62 parts rig and someone had welded the whole front clip together and it was so poorly done that I ended up having to junk the whole thing.

Anyway, if you're not sure what you're looking at, maybe reach out to a local club or someone in your area who knows 60 series cruisers and would be willing to look it over with you.

@diesellibrarian with the eagle eyes.

@rwelter Per his posts above, I'd pass on that one unless it's like $1000.

Rust is the Devil. find a solid truck from the South West Desert and no it won't be cheap or economical in any way shape or form.
