I think your idea Rhino is perfect. I believe lance at Iron Pig Off Road built a tank similar to what you describe. There was talk about him maybe making more- if there was enough interest. I have been looking into alternatives also for my trail pig. I do not need/want a 50 gallon tank hanging below the frame on that rig- fo sure.

I can say I have dragged that tank across some nasty s@$t and it does have a couple gouges/scrapes, and I barely wheel the Princess Pig. It's held up well thus far, but makes me nervous.

Anyhoo, I'm in too. Let's design/get something 'dialed' for our pigs!

[I apologize also, Cork]

Maybe start a designated thread? Moderators: can this be split up/moved?

I spoke to IPOR 6 or so months ago and expressed my intrest but it apparently ended there?

good points, something i thought of and kinda dismissed,,, so a seperate skid really would be the better way to go ya think? i was trying to avoid hanging the tank, but it could attach to the skid with straps and the skid would still be the attachment to the rig.

Long Range Tanks

Northwest Metal Products in OR, will make custom tanks , IronPig built my tank which most of you have seen, 33 gal just above the lower frame rail.

The LRA 49 Gallon tank comes with beefier straps/metal stock (probably about 3/16" thick) to provide more support. I have not actually filled the tank completely because I am nervous about all that weight, not the cost of fuel (one of my employment perks is a gas card! WOOT!) actually! What would 49 gallons of fuel even weigh? Like 300 pounds or something??!

I have spoken to a friend who is the Production Manager here in town at Fuel Safe. They make crazy highend fuel tanks for NASCAR and stuff. I've talked to him about making a 30'ish gallon tank for pigs, but I think the tank would be cost-prohibitive (easily over a $grand, with baffles, etc.).

I'll look into Northwest Metal Products here in Oreeegone. They may be the ones to talk to...

OINK!OINK!

You'll notice the two straps under the tank, that come up the sides and bolt into the factory holes . These straps are 1/4 thick stock.

Ahhh, now I understand what you mean by strap. I was picturing the lightweight straps under lightweight tanks.

thats perfect luke, its great to see what i was only picturing in my head. of course i was planning to mount the tank to the bottom of the frame rails with a skid plate type deal, but the straps look just fine.

carlos cost is kinda what i'm worried about now,,, the guys told me $400 back when i was going to do it, but now i wouldn't be surprised if that was double.

i really dont need the bigger tank now with 25MPG but what the heck.

Luke111, notice IPOR went with the original type vent system on your large tank; IMO that is the way to go have been :bang:fighting the POs decision to block off all the vents and leaving only the gas 2inch fill hose and the carb feed line creation a very :eek:scary situation when the fuel and air above it expand.pushing LOTS of fuel out through the gas filler cap.sorta have it solved by putting in a fuel air separator and venting it through a check valve into the "D" pillar.........thought about a small charcoal canister:idea: but to runn the outlet line from it??....PO also replaced the toy carb with a weber so no return to carb line left:meh: seems to be working well and the gas smell is not overpowering as it was + no more spillage:hhmm:
