Here are the pics. It was made by a company called "Custom Gas Tanks" located in southern California. 48.5 gallons. Looks pretty heavy duty.

Gas tank

Thanks for the info. I'll check it out. Airdale Senior Chief.

Gas Cap

I just had to invest in a locking gas cap after I found my filler door opened when going to work in the morning. Yep, it was empty......

Damn! I guess theves are hitting SUV's due to most tanks being plastic and high up enough to punch a hole and drain into a drain pan.

after seeing yet another pic of a long range tank hangin below the frame reminds me that i really need to get my custom tank made,, i already have everything set to go, it will be flush with the bottom of the frame and incorporate a built in skid plate,, should hold 35 gal. one of these days i'll get to it and then i'll be able to post up a price for anyone else interested.

Still interested RHINO, and I am sure a few others still are! speak up all! The flush and mounting design works much better for me as I use every inch of clearance and tend to slam and drag stuff! ;). Plus, 30 or so gallons makes more sense than 50 or so- atleast to me?

Speaking up :)

Interested.

I'm surprised I've never heard of anyone using the tank from some other vehicle, it seems like there would be something that just needs bracketing, or am I missing something?

well the problem with most other vehicle tanks is that theyre not any bigger, i scoured junk yards looking at all kinds of vehicles.

i even looked at rear tanks on pickup trucks,, found a few that were the right size but again,, pretty similar in capacity, many where actually smaller, 14-16 gallon range and pretty slim for the ability to keep a spare under it.

so i had some talks and measurements with some local guys who make tanks, the plan is to make up a tank that is the same dimension as the stocker just deeper to the bottom of the frame rail. with a 3/16's plate for the bottom of the tank giving an integrated skid plate and mounting flush to the frame. its always been on the back burner but it needs to get done, its planned to be baffled, and including a little reservoir at the pickup tube for off camber stuff, about $400 then maybe more now?.

If I still have my Pig I would be interested!

Would it be vented to go to the factory vapor seperator?

Would it be provisioned for in-tank pump w/ sock?

Would the skid plate tie to the frame, or would the rest of the tank be reinforced somehow to take the abuse from hits to the skid plate? I would guess it may be better to have a separate skid plate attached to the frame, but that's just a guess since I've never built (or abused) a skid plate.

picture a skid plate from frame rail to rail bolted to the bottom of said frame rails, now, weld up the other sides to complete a box and you got a gas tank with not only a build in skidplate but secure mounting also. plan is to use 3/16 for the bottom and 18g for the rest.

i figure a built-in skid flush with the frame should work well, i have drug the arse end of my pig all over the state and observed the impacts and drag marks.

pablo in my case no canister or seperator vents, but if/when it happens and others are interested it would have the right vents.
provisions for extras would just be extra cost, anything can be done.

i feel like i have succesfully hijacked a thread,, sorry cork.

That looks pretty identical to the one in my basement. Except for the extra "skidplate" welded to the bottom. Coulda used one though. Mine was leaking at the bottom of one of those boltholes, had to get it welded up. Still gotta dent there, and the inside coated.
Never got it bolted into the Pig though, and Cruiser_guy is coming to take a look at it. So what should I ask for it? I still have the original bolts, and some aftermarket bigger bolts...?
