Almaty Kazakhstan $1.36 US/gal

Hmmm, just received a message from a fellow countryman living in Kazakhstan.
He says dieselprices at this moment is 78 Tenge = approx 41 eurocents or approx 0.64 USD per liter (or 2,43 USD/gallon)

So if you're traveling to Kazakhstan....:D:D:D

If you want to look into fuelprices over there regularly and you understand Russian you find the prices in the little table at the righthand side of this page.
All prices in Tenge and per liter.
For the not so familiar with Russian: top of the table starts with LPG (or LNG) then several kinds of gasolin and at the very bottom the high grade diesel

The price went down this morning......
In Toronto I paid $1.199/litre.
Regular gasoline was selling for $1.227/litre

as much as i would like to believe that the Canadian people have the backbone for rebelion, it would probably only go as far the the local bar and a few drinks. i have yet to meet a more apethetic nation as the one i live in...

Show one example in recent history in an affluent western country

It's about time the scandal or road taxes was denounced as a way to keep the poor a the heel of the rich. And I'm not talking about those who make 100,000 a year, like the politically correct liberals would want us to believe are the rich (and have always done, thank you Mr Martin), I'm talking about the growing filthy rich class of people who have so much that they don't know what to do with.

You mean like Mr. Martin himself with the offshore investments (like his shipping line) hidden from the tax man!!

We need to be more like the Bolivians. Any little thing like a forgotten political promise to pave a road and they are bocking highways or doing a general strike. Seems like most middle class people here are willing to be victimized over and over again while the wealth of our nation is concentrated in the hands of fewer and fewer people/corporations.

Not exactly but good point, I was referring to his responsibility in lifting the capital gains exemption back in the late 80s which was previously set at $100,000 by the conservatives and disappeared under his ministry of finance. It has had the net effect of discouraging anyone from even trying to make a better life for themselves. With that measure the hard working poor able to make a $20,000 gain in capital has been taxed just the same way as the rich man with his millions.

check this out... Canada's "mini-budget" lets rich appropriate still greater share of social wealth

Talk about shoving the tax burden to those who can least afford it, JUST LIKE THE FUEL TAX!!

BTW I do agree with M John Galt that we are, on the global level, as a society in general, affluent. But just look around the corner, there is plenty of poverty around. Just ask yourselves who really owns everything you see out there. Fancy disguise, isn't it!

You are right for now, but if the price of fuel keeps rising at the rate it has risen lately, soon enough there won't be a middle class left.

When push comes to shove those same people will get out of the bar and take the streets... We'd already be there if it wasn't for hockey, this great invention to channel people's anger away from the real culprits... In reality we're no different than the bloody Romans and we'll probably be going down just like they did...

Never was much of a "middle class" in Bolivia. But the last 5 years or so it seems that they are always siding with those who are extremely poor. Same will happen in Canada. The only way an extreme inequality of wealth can be maintained is by brute force of a dictatorial regime. Even then, their time would be numbered.

One interesting factor some co-wokers and I have seen throughout the world is the use of TV to brain wash and sedate the population. What's more is it robs them of valuable time and resources to correct the situation. I think many Canadians are not a lot different from many of the world's poor being screwed into poverty by corrupt governments and corporations. Even if they can not afford fuel for their vehicles they are happy as long as they can waste their time and energy watching crap like American Idol or Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.

Edit: Diesel last weekend north from Cache Creek to Prince George was all 129.9/L. One place between PG and Quesnel had regualr gas at 105.9/L. Most places gas was around 124.9/l. Outside of the Lower Mainland there isn't so much of a price spread between diesel and gas. BTW Wayne, managed to keep my foot at 100-110 all they way up. Its was pretty hard to stay under 120 coming off the plateau down into Clinton and Cache Creek. Too much HP going down hill. LOL

oh, i long for that day...
not in my lifetime though, everyone is scared of standing up for their rights. and THIS part of the country has to be the worst for apathy.

A new high for the BC Lower Mainland, diesel at a Shell on Hwy 10 in Surrey jumped to 147.9/L last night. The attendent was not even aware it had jumped $0.17/L since she started her shift. Apparently, it is all done by some guy sitting ina room a long way aways. Was just in to the station getting some chips after a HAM class, when a Cummins driver came in freaking out it cost him $300 to fill. Ouch! Its tough owning a Japanese diesel, isn't it?

That's about the equivalent of 5.599 CAN for a US a gal

Holly Crap !!!!!!!!

I promise me no pay more than 10 bucks / gal .. no matter what .. so start searching for a cheap bicicle !

Well it was $1.499.9 friday a week ago... As I've been sitting in the office most of the week I haven't had to suffer much, but the money's not coming in either!!!

Update: it's $1.560 in Laval just north of Montreal... That's about US$6.00 a gallon at this time!!!

What bothers me in all of this is reading completely outrageous remarks of late such as "its not expensive enough", they invariably all come from narrowminded city dwellers nicely stowed in an asepticized appartment, taking a metro directly from their building lobby to their workplace, nicely shoehorned in a nice bland cubicle and who've never ventured beyond the confines of their city... You know the kind that believe that KFC chicken is actually 'grown' in factories? Sheesh!

Fact is, any country that relies on trucking and personal transportation will suffer greatly from this. And as a country bumpkin, I can truly feel the hurt now!!!
