What I'm saying it's that beging to be very difficult to the french and european people to the low and the middle class I still do the same milage every year ,about 20000 kms but half in North Africa . We live in Paris dowtown we don't used the toy I'm driving a 500cc yamaha to short distance and even bike same for the family. We have subway and bus and in France distance are shorter than your bigs countries . I don't want to trow away my toy I will modifit to run with oil , some are already doing this here
Eric

European prices for fuels is all tax. The price per barrel is what it is. Your being taken at the pump by your governments.
The market prices are evident as to what it costs in Northern Africa, the cost to bring diesel to the pump. What you're paying is extortion.

the government extorting the people?!?!? no way, say it isn't so

The big difference is there are more options for the folks in Europe and distances are short in country and between countries. For me to travel mid length in the province it is 1000 kms (not even half my work territory) The only other transport options are the bus (20 hours) or a combination of drive and plane. Neither of them are viable options for all the gear that i have to carry with me for work.

BRAVO, John! It's about time your position and that of many of us working in this country was loudly expressed in the public arena. Too many of our dumb politicians and their white collar cronies have never seen life outside of their big city offices and cannot grasp the consequences of high fuel prices and too many do-gooder greenies have the narrowest and shortest grasp of realitty, idiotically suggesting we all "go to work on the bus". To them I answer "The country is not limited to the city of Ottawa [put your favorite wghite collar city here], you dumbass!"

Both Canada's long distance passenger bus and rail sevice is lousy and their is hardly any governement support to make any impovements.

Or the fuel taxes we pay to have the "privilege" to use our "touring" vehicles to get to work go directly in the pockets of those who can choose to use public transportation

For our population, it probably is not feasible to have a transport system like Europe. Canadians are energy glutens because of the climate and geography of our country. Frankly, I think that this is a good reason for energy sources to be protected for future Canadians and prices controled for Canadians. Its not a question of free markets; its a question of national security. You can't just say we should be like Europeans because it isn't going to happen any more than us being like Fijians is going to happen. The world likes all the raw reasources and food grains we export, so they and the environmentalists should expect us to have a bigger carbon foot print.

Hear, hear! I hope those who are in power read this. This is so briliantly said. Kudos, Man!

Your being taken at the pump by your governments. [...] What you're paying is extortion.
No, Really? When did that happen? And since when is the road system only seeing 15% of tall the taxes collected by the government for it? I say to the Governement, don't make me laugh with your useless signs saying "we are securing the future of the 'nation' (er... it's still a province but who cares, the québecois newspeak is so common now no one even questions it) by 'investing' in our road system"

HAVE YOU SEEN THE CONDITION OF OUR ROADS LATELY? YOU CALL THAT INVESTING WHEN IT'S SIMPLY EMERGENCY REPAIR? HAS ANYONE FORGOTTEN THE FALLEN BRIDGES? SURE, THE COMISSION WAS ABLE TO BLAME THE CONTRACTORS! GOOD SNOW JOB, MR. PIERRE-MARC JOHNSON!

How is it that, in this province, we are the highest taxed for fuel in North America yet we have one of the worst road systems, if it's not simple, government-approved extortion?! I guess it cost a lot of money to get all these lawyers and governement official to dicusss the condition of our roads and the reason they are in such poor condition when nothing has been done for them for decades... Yeah, Right!!! When I see these expensive signs and TV commercials trying to convince us they are doing great work when a simple drive on these 'roads' would be sufficient to convince anyone of their appalling condition, I just cringe...

In the meantime that rag the 'Journal de Montreal' cries foul to scandal when a couple of crooked politicians and profiteers take in millions (the so-called 'scandale des commandites', let me laugh!), when it's NOTHING compared to the enormity of the CON the public is served by a fuel taxation system that diverts 85% to general funding and that NOBODY questions!!!

Oh and by the way... Have you seen Montreal from the air lately? It's such a patchwork of asphalt it looks like it's been bombed!!! even the Formula 1 drivers complain about the appaling condition of our so called "world class racing track"!!!

GAW! The hypocrisy of those in power knows no bounds... Time for a Revolution, I say!

LOL!!
my god, you french have balls... maybe we should have let the french win in the first place...

the two Shell grades are a marketing rip off.

John, for our older diesels this is a better statement! My BJ60 gets whatever is cheapest at the diesel pump.

I've also pretty much convinced myself to go "off grid" and make my own diesel how ever and where ever and come what may (what are they going to do if you're running homebrew bio-diesel anyways?). I've had it with speculators, government taxes and oil company profits. In Canada we are an oil producer who sends the US the bulk of their oil and we in Canada pay more for it than they do in the US!?!? I haven't even started on the whole "diesel should be cheaper" bandwagon either!

Yes I'm pissed and I'm going to do something on my own!

This Valcent Products Inc,. - High Density Vertical Bioreactor - HDVB - Sat Jun 28, 2008 is what I'd love to set up where I live. Based on 33,000gal/acre/yr I don't need very much space at all! A little dye when it's all processed and I should be good to go!

No running out of waste veggie, french fry smells or any other markers that I've got bio-diesel in the tank.

Does anyone have any more knowledge of the equipment, algae or any other info on this? With the guaranteed sun in Central America I should be able to drive fairly cheaply if I can make it work.

Filled up this morning with my first tank of B50, 74.16 litres @ 1.479, at the local Autogas by my office. :steer:
$109.68 total, including $4.88 of GST, and $7.18 PST.

Ouch! That'll be me tomorrow. But by the Alex Fraser they only have B40. My insurance to pay aircare.

B40 was 149.9 / L today at autogas. That's $100 for 3/4 of a tank. The price dif between B40 and plain dino was two cents per liter. WTH happened to the provinical taxes being off bio and adjusted by percentage? Also, I heard the gov put the carbon tax on B100. What a bunch of scam artists. B100 is almost 100% carbon nuetral. Probably as cabon nuetral as hydro electricity. All energy produced takes some hydrocarbon based fuels to produce them.

Also, I heard the gov put the carbon tax on B100. What a bunch of scam artists. B100 is almost 100% carbon neutral.

John, did you really think the carbon tax is about carbon footprints vs. revenue grab?

The Olympics have to be paid for somehow.

You don't think this will end with 2010 do you? After all we're still paying for the First World War with our "temporary" income tax!
