I also converted all the dash lights to LED's except I am using AutoMeter gauges and their supplied LED's. Gives a good soft light at night and does not blind me.

Also bought LED's from SuperBright.com as well for the side markers, license plate and turn signals. The turn signals will not flash so I guess I need another flasher. Just haven't gotten around to making that change.

Ordered all the bulbs that @FJ406 listed. Did have to modify the cluster light shield. Used a step bit to hog it out.

While sitting in the passenger seat, if you position your head 18 inches from the dash and look at the cluster. You can see the forward firing LED. My gauge is back together so I’m going to call it good for now. Wouldn’t take much to add a piece if tin to eliminate the side glare.

Also ground the flat shields down a bit in hopes more light would pour over them.

@SW20 has some recent experience with this as well. Scott?

@thebigredrocker - Here’s me minus the shroud job :grinpimp:....... Do believe you are some brighter!

I am fine with the improvement over the old bulbs plus I do not want to take that cluster out again!
*FWIW: I’m sure I will not be ‘lighting the way’ with this but here’s the bulbs I ordered -

Got some Sylvania 194 LEDs for my dash gauges... You can judge for yourself, but I am VERY impressed.

I did a Illuminated Ash Tray Modification

I added the bulb socket holder out of a 89-95 pickup / 4runner

when closed NO light is visible , must be the good sealing properties of the ash tray anti smoke design ?

You are preforming a led update correct just to be klear before I ramble on on what unique early cluster things you need to address to make this era cluster up
To 2021 year soec interior illumination standards and feature

I'd try non-LEDs, but based on what I've seen on Mud, I'm not going to get much brighter without LEDs.

Here are a couple options I found on super bright that I figured I would try:

Forget super bright

They sell China bulbs and at a premium too

You need a unique low profile led bayonet twist lock type

I source ALL my led bulbs from South Korea

There the global leader on 6, 12 , and 24 volts dc led bulbs

PM me please

Give me a count and color choices too

I personally go blue or violet now for main cluster body and. Color if needed task by lens color dictates

Red lens red led This gives you max lumens output and NO white hot spots

Super bright came to my home town like
6 years ago with a traveling seminar on Saturdays

I took
The class it was free to anybody in the auto buisness

It was eye opening and taught me
All the nuts and bolts foundations of function and form
When designing and specs regarding Vehical
And marine led interior and
Exterior illumination products and retrofit old ones like
Out topic here at hand

I will suggest you preform
A light shades modification on your cluster prior to
Led bulbs install

This allows you to use the max lumuens ones

It’s like having a PHISH fall tour concert in your day every night !

Let me know how I can further help

Matt
