Georgia requires taxes too. I just ordered from them last month, no problems, unless this is some new policy.
I suspect lots of states require taxes on e-commerce, but for whatever reason WA is not on the shipping list. It could be that they way the taxes have to be submitted is onerous and requires lots more leg work for McGeorge, or their e-commerce platform cant submit them in a satisfactory way for my state. I'd be shocked if they didn't update at some point...it seems like an easy solution, especially given that I can order from lots of other places and they can manage to deal with the tax hoops. Whatever, it's moot for me. There are lots of options out there. They were just my go to for the last few years, their shipping was OK and often better than Partsouq, and ocassioanlly they had access to things PS did not. Who knows. :meh:

A couple of quick updates here:
  • I have a partsouq order pending shipment with a few gaskets and o-rings that I overlooked ordering
  • I now have a McMaster Carr order in for a bunch of 6mm id vacuum line. NAPA Bellingham had nothing in 6mm, and auto zone had 5 and 7 mm...so off to the internet I went.
I also had an e-mail exchange with McGeorge toyota, they were prompt to respond, less than an hour from thier contact form. Here's the response:
It has something to do with this particular site's administrator. We are currently waiting for a resolution. We do have a direct Toyota website that allows shipping as it is a separate website. The pricing is different between the two websites but the other offers free shipping on orders over $75 not to exceed $200 in savings for shipping, that URL is toyotaonlineparts.mcgeorgetoyota.com. This site allows shipping to WA
That's What I know and now you do too!

I’ve been wrestling with the block coolant drain plug on the cruiser, and I finally got it off. Apparently this is so I can bathe all those electrical connectors with coolant.

Fortunately it’s the last one ever I’ll drain the block in such a messy way. I bought a little drain bolt with a valve and a 1/4 tubing outlet. That should make future coolant drains much more manageable.

I also scrubbed the VC, lots of grime. I’ll plan on putting the new gasket on when I’m ready to bolt it back up. I’m nearly ready to get after the manifold removal job and the vacuum tube replacement. The partsouq order has a couple of new check valves and they won’t be here for 7-10 more days. The larger tubing will be here tomorrow. Waiting waiting.

Well, I’m now officially frustrated with the EGR system. Getting it loose from my upper intake is the latest holdup. I had to go find and E7 Torx to remove the EGR studs…fortunately I managed to find one at Napa, but the big ass nut is a problem. I couldn’t get an adjustable wrench on it because the the wiring harness above the fuel rail is in the way. I was able to get a pair of slip joint pliers on it, but I couldn’t get it to break loose. I don’t know if it’s ever been broken free since assembly.

So I’m soaking it in Kroil penetrating oil and I’ll try again tomorrow. Honestly I thought I’d won the fight when I got all of the bolts and nuts off of the upper intake broken loose, some of them are difficult to get to. Fortunately I spent lots of time in the driver side wheel well with my NSS saga so I’m it afraid to get elbow deep by that PHH. Actually the PHH is a breeze compared to this nonesense.

Blarg. I’m going to try remounting the studs and and bolting the egr back up to the manifold. I’m needing to mantra “Slow is fast” right now. I’m feeling impatient to get this project moving forward.

This is my biggest challenge as well. I try to walk away for a day when I get real frustrated. Plus I'm less likely to lose my patience and do something stupid like round off a bolt. Hang in there

I through the egr mount studs in the garage and used bolts and nuts for final mounting. This makes future removal easier with regards to the egr pipe and egr valve union.

I bolted the egr back to the plenum and gave it another try, now the whole plenum is moving when I try and break loose the big nut…FSM says to do remove the EGR before unbolting the upper intake. :slap: I see my mistake now. Too bad those boys were a huge PITA to get loose. I’ll be pro at this by the time I’m done! Yes, I’m stopping for the night, having a dram and possibly shopping for a big wrench tomorrow.

If I understand correctly, you’re referring to the studs the EGR uses to bolt to the upper intake? Those were easy for me to deal with once I procured a E7 socket, but this large nut is a little corroded.

I’m hoping that more Kroil soaking + bolting the upper intake back together will let me get enough force on this nut to break it loose. I’m really nervous to apply heat with so many places to destroy the engine wiring harness. I may go buy a nice adjustable wrench. Unfortunately my sweet Proto tool adjustable wrench (it was my pop’s) is about 5mm to small to grip it.

So a glass of whisky and internet reading is going to be my next step.

What size is it and where exactly are you located? If you don't wanna buy tools I have a pretty extensive kit.

That’s Kind of you sir, I’m in Bellingham Wa. I don’t really mind buying tools, it’s nice to have the right one for the job and all. However, in this case the nut is 32mm and a wrench this size will be about 16”+ long. I won’t be able to swing it without removing the hood. I’m very much trying to avoid that If I can. I really don’t have a place to put a hood where it’s not prone to damage or in my way.

I’ll keep trying the methods other have had success with…and lots of penetrating oil.

Thanks for the support Cruiser people! I’ll get that EGR loose, just keen to not break the EGR in the process.

Well if it comes down to it, I have one that size.

I have a 12" adjustable wrench that should open far enough or a 32mm socket if that will work. It would good to meet you anyway since I'm so close.

I’m feeling the Cruiser Love here. I think I’m all set with tools at the moment. A future land cruiser oriented hang out? But I’d have to leave my Covid bunker! Seriously though, At some point I’d like to meet up with the Bellingham folks for a round of beer or coffee or whatever. My wife is a health cate provider snd as such we follow some strict rules around here now that the viral ecosystem has all of our attention in one fashion or another. So when will that cruiser hangout happen? Well I hope soon!

I gave it another go briefly this afternoon, but I still need to bolt the upper intake back on so I can put more force on it without damaging the studs, or the egr pipe itself. I did buy some nice Knipex adjustable pliers today. They seem to grip well. I wasn’t able to work on the truck today, other things called my attention, but I’m hoping to have a solid couple of hours to keep going forward.

I’ll keep you posted and I’ll take some photos.

Ok update: I got that nut to move…so so very little. But I’ve moved it maybe 1/8th a turn pulling the wrench towards me….but it’s not really loosening. Then I thought: am it tightening this thing? Can you confirm counter clockwise with the wrench, which rotates the nut towards the passenger side.

G,

I haven't done what you're doing but I thought the EGR line "nut" you're working on should be loosened the opposite way from the way you describe it. I would loosen it going toward the driver's side fender.

Look at posts #6 & 8 of this thread... EGR Pipe - https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/egr-pipe.541319/

See what I see or am I backward?

@PNWTreeOctopus, as @FMC80 has stated correctly you need to rotate your wrench in the opposite direction. Because the nut is attached to the pipe, not the EGR valve, you have to have to do the counterclockwise lefty loosey from the perspective of the pipe/nut. When you have trouble breaking a fastener free once you get it to break free a small amount reverse the direction back and forth which will break any rust/corrosion free faster. This will also allow penetrating oil to get furthering in and then you can try again. This method also keeps a bolt or nut from snapping off.

Looking at your image, where your hand is, push not pull.

It’s all finally on the bench. I’m looking forward to replacing these vacuum lines. That was satisfying to remove. Thanks for the help. I’m beat gonna go get some sleep!
