@gummycarbs the deco’s with the included bulb was a huge upgrade? Want to make sure I am following correctly.

Another way to improve the lighting on the 80 is to upgrade to a Landcruiser Grilles grille and headlight mounts. Install 7” LED Inserts and you have vastly improved the front end lighting of the truck.

For me, it was a massive upgrade just going to the Depos with H4 bulbs. However, my left hand lens had a hole in it (looked like a BB strike), and I can't vouch for the condition of the reflectors nor the age of the bulbs. When I first got the 80 I was appalled at how bad the lighting was.
Facts
Here in Australia I use Stedi H4's in stock hi/low beam semi-sealed inserts (new oldstock ones). The major issue with any sort of LED headlights are (a) alignment and (b) proper light beam output.
Here our headlights require a 'right cut' on the low-beam, and it's illegal to have more than two low-beam headlights. So any LED headlights must provide the 'right cut' but as an 80 never had LED headlights ex-factory ALL aftermarket LED (and HID) headlights are technically illegal. To date I've not been chatted about mine but I'm fairly careful to try and get the alignment set good enough.

On a related note, if you need to check and/or adjust your headlight alignment and you have no access to the side of a building or a wall with a flat/level approach to park on far enough back (how far back I don't know), is there a way to try and approximate the proper alignment?

They come with instructions and DD has some vids. The collar is indexable, when you get them in hand it’ll make sense 
I like my diode dynamics sl1 led replacement, I have them in low and high beam.
Make sure you index them correctly, the base can be rotated with a set screw.
I printed a replacement bulb retention ring. The oem one was cracked and has a raised bump that was in the way.

The diode dynamics bulbs should work, not sure about my rings.
Well the depos use h4 low and h1 highs, so probably not. I don’t think Diode makes h4/h1.
This is an old thread but I wanted to ask. LED are not supposed to be used as plug and play in a stock projector housing. However, I see that Diode Dynamics LED bulbs are commonly recommended in this forum. Why is Diode Dymanics compatible with the stock projector without blinding other drivers?I like my diode dynamics sl1 led replacement, I have them in low and high beam.

Modern led bulbs are now being designed with cutoffs.

How'd you remove the low beam bulb shroud in order to install these? and is it reversible? Meaning could you reinstall the bulb shroud if you wanted to go back to traditional bulbs.View attachment 3194784
Here’s some LED projector bulbs in DEPO housings. They’ve got low beam ‘cutouts’ so as not to blind oncoming traffic. They’re not just a drop in fix though. Still a work in progress for me. One housing wasn’t sealed properly from the factory and my fix . . .well, it wasn’t. So I still get moisture in the DS one
I'm considering going this route since the Tundra guys have had a ton of luck with this type of bulbs.
It just unscrews from the back and comes out. On the two sets I have anyway. Not running these now and the high beam shines down onto the reflector and up into the trees and tops of the telephone poles. I abandoned it and I’m just running H1s and H4s like they’re built to run. Glad I had an extra set laying around cuz I smoked a grouse or some other big bird in October.

Nice, I might give them a shot then! It's nice that it can be undone in case I don't like them. I've heard from the Tundra guys that they have had good luck with the CoLight brand ones.
Have any of you installed the new Diode Dynamics SL2's or SL2 Pro's in stock housings?
