Even outside if you're near people folks should wear one. My $0.02 anyway.

When traveling, we either mask up anytime we're around other people or give them a bunch of personal space. Mask on takes ~2 seconds if I just leave a bandana around my neck. We're likely not a carrier (our suburb of 40k people has been registering only 1 or 2 new cases a day), and the town we're in might be small and not dealing with an outbreak, but it simply feels disrespectful right now to me to risk spreading illness to towns we're passing through or visiting.

Gotta protect the elderly

Couldn't agree more. My opinion is that I don't want to do anything that draws negative attention to our community, which to me means going out of my way to mask up and set a positive example. Too often off-road enthusiasts are stereotyped as uneducated rednecks with little regard for rules/safety, other non-4wd outdoor enthusiasts and a general 'hold my beer' approach to risk management. I like to think the LC community pushes back on those notions by our behavior. Especially given that I'll be a guest at Rising Sun's event, I want to be extra respectful of their reputation in the community.

Matthew, thanks for your position. To be clear, this isnt a Rising Sun event, thats Cruise Moab or some of the other trail runs we do throughout the year such as I am leading the Rising Sun 40's only run in August which is just FJ40/43/45's and its really cool to see 20 FJ40's wheel up a hill together

Rising Sun is a local club and many members will be there, but this is being done by Cole and Cody with a few others. They deserve all the credit for putting this together every year

Thanks for the clarification. I should have realized it wasn't an official event, but had just been thinking about it the same way as CM. I still consider myself a guest of both the community at large and the LC community in the region. If I haven't said it before, a big thanks to everyone involved with putting this together. I was so looking forward to attending CM, and aside from a few short camping trips nearby, it's been Groundhog Day since March. Looking forward to/preparing for this event has been keeping me reasonably sane.

My schedule

Thursday: Old Flowers Road to Greer Road via Monument Gulch

Friday: Johnny Park Road to Pole Hill - Group 1

Saturday: Storm Mountain and Bear Gulch

I thought a crawl/walk/run approach would be best so easy/mod/difficult.

FYSA: You can filter the area by type on the right side if you want to try and see different locations during the event!

Just a minor note: we're paying attention to which trails are filling up vs. which ones aren't. We almost always need to rebalance a bit as folks get signed up. This almost never results in anyone being taken off of a trail that they want to do (though sometimes the day changes).

To the point above, we're currently "full" on blue trails on Saturday with plenty of availability on green and red trails, so we may open up a second blue run.

Well folks.....I’m, unfortunately, having to drop out of the event due to a family medical emergency. I’ve been holding on for a few days trying not to accept the reality but it is what it is and I will live vicariously through y’all’s posts and pictures. I hope someone on the wait list can take my spot and I have a camping spot at Ansel Watrous that I haven’t cancelled yet. If someone wants it, pm me and we can coordinate timing on cancellation so it can be picked up. Safe travels everyone!

Anyone going to this going to have Bud Built under body skids? I'm debating between the Slee and Bud Built and I would love to see them both in person before making a decision.

I run BB sliders and skids...welcome to take a peek.

Budbuilt skids here.
I haven’t seen the Slee’s in person yet as they haven’t been out very long, but would be surprised if you don’t see at least a set at the event..

I’ve got their sliders and skids. Didn’t get the fuel tank skid. Look for the green 200, more than welcome to crawl under and check them out.

Tentative route up, assuming I'm rolling solo. I'm completely flexible on timing and route if anyone from AZ wants to convoy. I haven't driven the Durango to Silverton route or seen any of the area around Ouray, so just figure that was as good a route as any. Currently planning to leave Tuesday. May camp or get a hotel around Durango on Tuesday night. Might leave late on Tuesday and drive straight through. Overall goal is to hit Ft. Collins by 5pm on Wednesday. Still have my reservation at the Elizabeth, but leaning towards camping if I can find a good spot. Also, happy to align my travel to the SoCal folks that might be coming through Phoenix or crossing AZ on I-40. Just let me know.

A group of participants is staying at Ansel Watrous Campground.

May want to PM 'Vapilotda' and see if his spot is still available?

@vapilotda
Sorry to hear the news, and hope next year will be more kind to you.

I haven’t made any camping reservations and Didn’t plan on it, was planning on winging it like I normally do and find an empty parking lot or a free spot on a trail somewhere.

I’m trying to save money as it’s already looking a little too tight, so If it isn’t too expensive I’d love to take it off your hands; that will save me from having to drive around looking for a place to sleep, as well as allow me to stay near the group. I appreciate it brother.

Also, if anyone wants to let me check out and document their rigs (I live broadcast from my car), let me know and I’ll put time aside and together we can tell everyone all about it! I am very excited to see some of your rigs in person, as I am sure these build threads and limited pictures can never do it justice. I’ll bring the camera gear.

I'm in spot 5, upper and the site is only $23 a night. If you don't have a recreation.gov account, sign up and just let me know when you are ready. I'm not sure if i can directly transfer the reservation to you but figured it would be easy enough to time it together where I cancel, and you just make the reservation right after.

Will make an account today and take a look. I thought about it and if someone else wants the spot they should take it, as I would only want it for 1 night. I want to get around and see as much as possible while I’m there, so won’t be staying in one place for too long.

Easy enough. I believe I can cancel up to 24 hours out without a total loss for the reservation. I just eat 10 bucks up until then.

Can I show up to your spot and say I’m a friend or do they check ID? Maybe easier for me to just Venmo you directly so you don’t eat any fees for cancellation or have to find a way to transfer. I trust ya that isn’t the issue, issue is whether or not I want the spot and I will let you know by end of today. I’ll DM ya, thanks brother!
