OK so I have been following these threads from the start and even gone back to re-read much of them and I still can not understand one particular simple thing about these units?

Are these actual Radios that will tune FM or Sat in addition to being Carplay units?

I have less than ZERO interest in bringing my own programming into the car from a phone or streaming but I do want to listen to Sirrius/XM mostly but through a modern interface and also Navigate without the need for any internet connection of any kind.

I accept that everyone else seems to want to use the phone for everything and bring that into the car but I just do not.

So I use a Cassette adapter and Sat Receiver now in the 06 LC and while it works OK I wold love it to be more integrated in the dash of course but only if I can still receive the programming that I want and that is not going to be on my phone other than Books on Tape which I run off of an iPod through the same Cassette Adapter.

Do these radios have radios in them?????

Thanks and yes I am old!

I installed this thing last night in a 2006 GX470.
Everything is working well (haven't wired cameras) but the sound quality is inferior. I made sure to reset the bass, treble, mid to 0 and volume to 40 on the factory unit before removing. I also went into the console and adjusted the FR LR and volume.

anyone have a fix or suggestion? 👍👍🤝

Just curious, why did you set the old unit's volume to 40? I read on another thread it should be on zero. My PX6 is super loud, even at 1. And I'm hearing a lot of engine noise. I'm going to try putting the old unit back in and turning the volume down, but I'm not sure how low to go. Have you had any luck?

I haven't played with the mirror function on mine...

But yes, these are radios. They have AM/FM receivers in them.

You can download your Sat Radio app and stream if you prefer.

The only caveat is that you'll need to use your phone as a hot spot if you don't use the Carplay or mirror.

Thanks for the reply!
I mainly want to listen to Sat and not streamed through an App so I guess I am back to square one if there is no way to integrate a Sat Receiver with these?

So has anyone else thought of using the Sirrius/XM receiver with this radio?

I can’t remember for sure, but I believe I had three unused connectors. Please check the guide. I know for sure one of the ones in your picture is for auxiliary antenna and I cut that one out to save space. Check your harness to be sure before cutting it out though.

Pretty sure the connector in the middle and the connector on the bottom in that group you show need to be connected

I suggest you check out the 2003 Cruiser radio thread to see if the cables match up with your radio. You may need the premium cable kit. Please report back on what you find so we can help others.

Following up in hopes of informing others.

After a couple months of back and forth with Rhino trying to get them to help and I just put the unit back in the box and returned it to them.

2 main problems:

First, the 2003-2007 version simply does not work on my 2003. As pictured above, the harness doesn't connect to most of the connectors coming out of the truck. Some of the connectors that do seem to connect have wires in the wrong slots so don't actually make an electrical connection. The radio wouldn't even power up.

Second, Rhino's customer service is just bad. They don't answer their phone, so email is the only support option. Each message from me took 24 hours to get a response if at all. Many of my messages didn't receive a response. I sent many pictures described the issues in detail and repeatedly was asked whether the unit powered up which tells me they weren't paying attention. I answered that at least 6 times and even offered to set up a fixed date and time for a phone call to find a solution. Nothing. It wasn't until I got my credit card involved to dispute the charge that Rhino even got back to me on the return/refund.

So, If you have a 2003, I'd recommend very carefully reviewing the pictures and advice in this thread before purchasing and if you still choose to purchase, don't do so through Rhino.

Back to my antiquated navigation system...

The best explanation I got was that this is simply an android tablet. I also had a Sirius car account on the factory unit, and had to cancel service after the install. You can install the sirius app on your phone (much cheaper than their car service) and bluetooth it to the radio . You can also bluetooth spotify, pandora, etc from your phone. This bypasses installing the apps on the tablet. Its what I do and it sounds great.

The production date of your LC or LX. Thought maybe yours was before jan 2006.

Edit. I see your sig now, 2005. That would be why you have no srs code.

I forgot to turn my phone sideways to see signatures.

Thanks for starting this thread, @BigLittle. The other was definitely starting to meander away from the central purpose (and I had plenty to do with that).

For those who have questions about my install and experience to this point with the PX6 unit in an '06 LX, feel free to leave them here and I'll do my best to answer them or capture photos/video. I've also had plenty of time to assemble what I consider to be a "core" set of apps that improve the unit significantly from the factory setup.

@Ell Ex I'm very interested in the core set of apps you've been using. Been running the PX6 for a few months now and am curious what apps could help streamline things a bit.

@21jacob21 First and foremost, if you don't already use Car Launcher Pro as the interface, that's my top recommendation -- it completely changes the way you interact with the unit, and all for the better.

For my local music and video files, I've settled on VLC for Android. It works perfectly with the vertical screen orientation and has the best media file organization and sound adjustment of any other media app I've tried (and I've tried them all). I also like that it eliminates the need for separate music and video apps. I also use Spotify and Google Play Music for streaming, and Stitcher for podcasts.

One issue to note: if you have a large hard drive connected like I do, the first time you run VLC it will take a long time to index all of the files into the library -- like really, really long. My 500GB SSD is filled near capacity with around 15,000 music files and a couple dozen concert videos, and the indexing process took upwards of 30 minutes. Once it's done, you won't have to go through it again, but prepare to sit in the car for a bit if you have a large collection because if you turn the unit off before it completely finishes indexing, you'll have to go through the whole process again next time you turn it on (ask me how I know).

For OBDII monitoring, I use an app called Car Scanner ELM OBD2. I used to use Torque Pro, but the app doesn't work with the PX6 unit for some reason -- no response to any screen touches. Not a huge loss since the Torque developers haven't made any meaningful updates in several years.

I also have YouTubeTV and Netflix installed, but they don't get much use when I'm driving around town.

For navigation, it's the usual suspects: either Waze or Google Maps, depending on my mood.

For anyone who has purchased one of these head units and has no intention of installing an aftermarket amplifier: I somehow managed to lose my RCA output plugs during installation -- must've somehow thrown them away, because I'm fairly sure they were in the box when it arrived. So, if anyone here has a spare set or a set you don't intend to use, I'd love to throw you a few bucks for them. I'm running an aftermarket amp right now by tapping into the low-level front speaker outputs from the head unit, but I lose subwoofer level adjustment and front/rear fading doing it that way.

Anyone interested in selling, please PM me. It would be greatly appreciated!

I'm not tech savvy, but I'm going to try these suggestions...thanks! I downloaded car launcher pro. The old altimeter/compass keeps showing up overlayed on top of the new display(the little white car). Is there something I need to delete so these programs don't conflict? Same for the VLC for android - do I need to delete an existing program? thank you in advance

Right on thanks @Ell Ex! Very helpful list of 'starter' apps. Excited to dig into this new launcher a bit! Sick of seeing the white sedan on the (useless) inclinometer. However, I cannot figure out for the life of me how to switch Car Launcher Pro into vertical orientation rather than the default landscape. Several different Google searches have provided no insight whatsoever (gasp!).

I stumbled upon this, but Torque does work in "split app" mode. Apparently, the app doesn't work with our screen resolution and so the touch targets are about 2-3 inches above where they should be. Splitting the screen with Navigation and Torque gets things working correctly. You just need to enable the split screen option in the system settings I believe.

Disregard my previous question @Ell Ex. I realize now that the app optimizes the home screen for the orientation of the device. Pretty cool!

Thanks for letting me know. I suspected it had something to do with how the responsive areas were mapped to the screen, but there were so many other similar apps to choose from that I didn't spend much time trying to figure out what it was. Nice troubleshooting.

I'm not in the truck at the moment, but if I recall correctly, there's a small square-shaped button in the bottom corner of one of the split screen windows that should activate whether you get full-screen or split screen.

Thanks! Remarkably, when I rebooted the system the altimeter went away. Love this new setup - thank you

If you figure out a way to replace the white car on the incline meter, please post it. I really, really don't like it. Thanks for the input.
If I can add two cents.. consider downloading and installing car launcher pro if you haven’t. Tweak all the settings and download themes and even install your own photos but it might make for a more enjoyable experience of having a tablet. Check Youtube for more info
