I got my steering to work pretty good, I think its in serious need of an alignment. Whats the best way to make my steering wheel straight when my tires are straight? Is there a way to unbolt the steering wheel and just rotate it?
 
Don't pull the steering wheel! You just need to adjust the drag link. as you rotate the drag link the wheel will turn to center.

Why? Sounds easier just to pop the steering wheel off, turn it a little and bolt it back down.
 
I just read back some of the older posts, and it sounds like your brothers friend just put it in wrong. If you just pull the wheel and relocate it you may loose your automatic canceling blinkers. It is best to recenter 1st using the drag link , or 2nd in you case disconnecting the steering shaft from the box and centering it.

Oh I see, it might be difficult with the rust.

That was the towing charge, gas and my stupidity to have them install a caliper and bleed my brakes because it was supposed to rain. Of course the idiot that installed it didnt listen to me when I said it would need a little grinding instead he used an impact wrench to tighten those nuts down as tight as he could get them. Then drove it using my wheel as a grindstone. So the back of my wheel is destroyed and they didnt put the rubber pads on the tank straps. So guess who is getting a call tomorrow.

Me too! But it was either have them put it on or me put it on in the rain. But I didnt think anyone was dumb enough to to drive something when it rubs so badly.
 
forget what i said earlier....more than an earfull!!!!
 
The best part is when I asked who was going to do the work they said "someone who is trained to do the recall" I just laughed and said ok. But when I got there the person who did the recall looked younger then my cruiser.

Still working on the steering. I cant get the draglink to rotate more then half a turn. Right now the threads are soaking in pb blaster.
 
Still need help with my steering... I'd rather not start a new thread.

Came up really well!

Lose the chrome? If you want to get rid of those little vent/trim things on your front guards or you have any spares i'll buy them off you!

We don't have them in Aus and they would look different over here!

If I do take them off there yours. I've heard mixed things about taking them off, some people say its no problem and some people say it leaks.
 
Failed inspection.

I need to do A LOT of body work, a lot of exhaust work and some random other stuff that has nothing to do with inspection. My problem is that I dont really have access to a welder and to fix some of the rust would mean ripping apart the interior. I dont really want to use bondo because it always makes stuff worse. This got me thinking (bad thing) why not find a rust free or close to it cruiser and take this one off the road. Maybe find one with a shot engine and swap it for my good one. My plan has been to use my current cruiser for whats called grad challenge at my school. Its a huge waste of time project that is required to graduate. My plan was to buy a different car next summer so I could still have transportation even when I had my current cruiser torn apart. So thats what made me think about buying one now.

I just needed a place to write down my idea and help get some of my frustration out.
