Looking great! Interested in that cooler mount. Though mine is a yeti 75 and might just be too big for the bumper

Thank you sir! I'll keep you in the loop as the cooler mount comes along. For my 50, to clear a 35" tire on the other swingout (wishful thinking), I may need offset everything outboard an inch or so... I am going to do some mockups and see what I come up with.

@ikarus I've done a little more thinking, might be cool to mount some rotopax underneath the coolers. What do you think? The smaller are the 1gal, they fit nicely and I Think that would be the best route to go. The bigger on the left is the 2gal, I think it sticks out a bit too much.

I am going to model up some sceptar cans and see how they fit in the coolers footprint, may adjust that a bit to give the flexibilty to carry jerry cans.. or maybe mount two cans instead of the rotopax (the pax are SO expensive).

If you wanted to, two could fit on top with room to spare... I just don't know when I would be going anywhere that I need that much fuel, and don't need to have my cooler... but, it's nice to know the option is there...

I need some more details on your tailgate storage idea man. Did you just hack out the holes and then pop the cover on? It looks like you laid down some carpet between the new storage and the tail lights? That is on my short list of mods to get my recovery gear and jumpers into. I really dig what you did there. I need MOAR pics! :bounce:

Yup, just did a bit of layout on the tailgate itself and then transferred the pattern to the wood, cut the holes in the wood and then remarked the tailgate.... spent some time with a grinder (it cuts EASY) and then back-located the fastener locations. It looks like you laid down some carpet between the new storage and the tail lights? I just cut out some cheap carpet from homeless despot and used some sticky back velcro to hold it down.. .worked surprisingly well, That is on my short list of mods to get my recovery gear and jumpers into. I can get you moar pics! Anything specific you'd like to see? I can get you measurements/CAD model if you want? Next go around I am going to try and cut it out of aluminum or HDPE plastic.. this crappy piece of plywood had a lot of voids in the layers that made it tough to finish and make look nice. It's super functional though, there is a TON of space in the tailgate cavity

Make any progress on the roof rack?

Not yet, I may start working on some CAD models, but I'd like to get the cooler mount finished first (I need that the most currently). But I'll post up when I start working on it.

I'd like to see where you cut and how you built up the tailgate before installing the cover panel and doors. Looks nice man, does it get heavy with all the gear loaded up?

Unfortunately, Yes... it gets pretty heavy, especially since I removed the factory tailgate assist spring. I am trying to get some dimensions on the Dee-Zee tail gate assist (buying pull type shocks from suppliers, in such a low qty, they are like 100 bucks a piece...) Here are a few pictures from mid-build I dug up. I didn't do any building up of the tailgate before installing the cover. There are 3 supports that are underneath the inside sheet metal, I cut the tow outsides out and left the center support. I was able to use all of the holes that were previously used to mount the carpet. I think I will need to add through bolts to the hinges so they are more sturdy, but that is no big deal.

After I made the cut, I cleaned up all the edges and hit them with a primer, and then covered them with a progaff tape since some of the sharp edges were tough to get to, especially on the remaining portions of the cut supports.

Blue line is what I initially marked out, green line is what I ended up cutting. Red line is the outline of the cover

The top and bottom alluminum peices are full length and I used a table router to recess all of the aluminum door support pieces which are then screwed into the plywood from the back (The lower shares some of the mounting holes, so it isn't attached with screws to the cover). You can also see in this picture where I started removing material from the left side (relative to the photo)... I had to do this so that my drawers would clear, this ended up making the plywood pretty thin...if you don't have drawers, you won't have this problem. Next go around I think I will use 3/16" aluminum or maybe UHMW in around 1/4-3/8" thickness and try to adjust my drawers up a bit.

I don’t plan on cutting my tail gate but would like to replace the carpet. What did you use to secure the screws? Toggle bolts?

I just used 1/2-20 bolt and nut since I could get to the back of the bolt with the holes cut. You could use toggle bolts but I think some rivnuts would be a good solution and a lot easier once you have the rivnuts installed.

Yeah dude, that looks great. Stacking the 1 gallons underneath is clean. I use Jerry cans so the ability to have Jerry cans in place of the cooler would be rad too

Thanks man. I just picked up all the metal, hoping to get started this weekend. I’m going to use 1.25 x .095 DOM tubing for the cooler mount.

Great craftmanship by another enthusiatic 100 series owner. I am not that skilled on the tools and ordered up a kit from Huracan out of Australia. Just in the process of finishing the fit up.
Would be keen to source an appropriate tail gate assist kit that would work for our Cruiser. With a convenient storage space in the the tailgate i am likely to jamb it full of must-have gear, as you do, including jumper leads (for other less reliable brands & rigs), basic tools, recovery gear, the frequently accessed stuff mostly. The tailgate is getting heavy just thinking about it. There are a number of companies around that do a tail assist kit but have not found one that fits a 100 series. Should have started another thread on this issue but this is the next logical extension of a tail gate storage install so make the comment here. Please give us all a heads up if some one finds one or manages to successfully adapt an existing kit for our purpose on a 100 series.
