Good to hear from you though! I looked back at that picture you posted and noticed the early grille w/ marker lights built in. That would be native to '68/69/70 I believe.
Worth your time if you ever go back.
Pig hunting wagon?!? That would not be right... :-)
Thanks Pablo! Think you right early 70's had a red emblem steering wheel.
I've got the grille, think I will go back sometime to get some other parts maybe the jump seats. Have an installation in Wellington early next year so possibly then.

The Rego on your parts pigs describes it as 1978 FJ. Overseas Import, first Reg'd in 1990, cancelled in 1997. Too short a life!

Come to think of it doesn't look like a 78. Doesn't have rounded front door frames and the rear stop lights aren't the vertical ones. Must of being a bitza as lots of parts are interchangeable through the years.

Finally can make an update on some progress. I knew I had roof issues (im sure lots of you are famliar with this) so have decided to start there. Started to scratch the surface and and started digging here is the end result.

I'm glad I removed as there is some rust issues to deal with.
All the corner pillar junctions need work here's some pictures.

Here's a picture of one of the cross members. Amazing that it 45 Years old and has surface rust and bright steel showing. Goes to show its all about water collecting that causes the rot.1452064526574.webp

Great pictures! Shows how important it is to treat this area with a rust suppressant. What's your plan for the roof? Making a new one or maybe trying to graft a van roof on it?

Look forward to your progress.

I'm going to keep the roof, it's in good shape above where it turns down into the gutters. Hoping the edge radius is enough to reduce distortion when I weld in new gutters and sides.
I'm sure easier said than done but will give it a go.

I really hope not! My wagon is not really a shining example of care and attention.
In saying that, prevention is better than cure. If a headliner was been replaced which is a big job anyway I would be pumping some kind of rust preventative into the small gap between the roof and frame. Looking at my one, where the pillars join the roof frame is definitely where the problem starts.
Anyway back to stripping off the drip rails.

Those Eastwood products are what I used. I sprayed the heck out of everything I could reach. On the frame, I'd spray and flip it, spray again, then stand it up vertical and spray some more.
