Thanks pierps, though i should probably change the thread name. I’ve learned there is nothing kid safe about a restoration - just an acceptable level of exposure I guess!

Truck did not come with brackets for the steps, I could not find any used ones so I cut, welded, and powder coated some from scrap 3/16 steel. Turned out well enough.

Tub is coming back this weekend. I want to put it on the frame, but I don’t have the transfer case back yet. Moving in 2 weeks, so it needs to be somewhat together for transport.
Anyone installed the transfer case without pulling the transmission?
I don’t think it’s possible; usually we pull both at the same time. I’m sure someone has done it, but I’ve never had success at it.

Thanks for the reply bernefj60... Yeah, thought that may be the case. At least I’ll get to see if the shaft seated in the pilot bearing properly when I pull the tranny, was a real B to get in the last few mm and I was worried I squashed it.

Awesome job, great to see someone dive in like this. Gonna be a great rig for the family.

Thanks to all, I need all the encouragement I can get. Just moved to the Philadelphia burbs last month - cruiser made it with only a minor scratch. Good news is that I finally have a garage, bad news is that the house needs a lot of work. Spent the last month refinishing 3000 sq ft of heart pine floors, crazy amounts of plaster repair, and hand dug 200ft of trench for downspout and driveway drainage. I will get back to the cruiser, just may be a couple months.

Finally settled, starting up again. Had the transfer case rebuilt and I am ready to install. Definitely won’t fit past the crossmember, I will need to either pull the engine or try to drop the rear (I’ll probably try this first).

Refreshing the speedometer assembly... seals popped out easily with the curved pic.

My Speedo didn’t have the collar pictured in the rebuild instructions above. Do I need it?

Sad to see you leave the DC area...but sounds like you got a better garage out of it (and probably a bigger house, too!). Looking forward to updates.

So transfer case definitely doesn’t fit past the crossbar, so per recommendations on mud, removed the rear motor mounts, loosened the front and dropped the transmission until it cleared the bar. The rear engine hook dented the firewall in the process, but otherwise worked out well. Transfercase rebuilt by OTRAMM in VA.

Blasted and powder coated a bunch of parts as well. It is good to be out of the tarp garage and under a real roof, still need do some stuff outside though.

Also coated the tcase and transmission shift levers and t case linkages.
So, harbor freight takes a lot of crap, and after using a couple of their air tools I understand why... however, their 2 stage compressor, blast cabinet, shop cranes, engine stand, tarp garage, and powder coating set up have been more than adequate to do everything I’ve asked of them. Never could have justified buying better equipment, and never had to.
Pedals installed, really happy with the yellow zinc, looks good with the olive.

Got some defects in the powder on the transfercase cover in the last pic... It was really cold out, and I decided not to out gas the part before coating. This powder is tough as nails, even when poorly prepped it takes forever to strip, so it stays. Powder from prismatic powders, the harbor freight powder only came in flat, but lays on ok if you sift it well.
