PLEASE TELL ME I DIDNT JUST CONTAMINATE MY ENTIRE BASEMENT WITH CADMIUM DUST!!!!!!!!!

Blasted a whole lot of bolts in the cabinet and the bottom fell out - dust billowed EVERYWHERE. I assumed they were yellow zinc, but now I’m not so sure - I would have dunked them in acid first if I were smarter.

So much for “kid safe”.

Sorry to say but factory bolts were yellow cadmium. Good luck cleaning up and use a respirator.
Thanks for the response. Clean up wasn’t too bad, it was just a few bolts before I became suspicious. No symptoms of acute toxicity - can’t imagine I mobilized a clinically significant mass of cadmium. Acid dipped the rest to remove the plating and sweep blasted For texture. Cleaned out the blast cabinet and swapped out the media. Sent out for yellow zinc plating.

Had to get the engine back in, moving out of state in a month and it’s hard to move a thousand pound engine. Plus the body is coming back next week and I need to put it on the frame for the move.

Installed the transmission while waiting for the transfer case to be rebuilt - then I realized how little clearance there is between output shaft and crossmember.
QUESTION - Is there any way to fit that transfer case in without pulling the transmission again? Maybe pull the rear motor mounts and tilt the engine/transmission to the ground? More pics coming soon.

Tried my hand at plating using the Caswell yellow cad kit. Did it outside, there is some nasty stuff in there! First batch did not go well- zinc went on well, chromate just dried and flakes off. Second batch turned out great. Seems the key is a short acid dip in 5%hcl, then rinse, then yellow chromate, only a few seconds required. Then I rinsed, for some reason it all turned out better when I rinsed with a sprayer after dipping in dh20. Also I used a hair dryer to dry them off right after rinsing. Let the bolts sit undisturbed a few days and it is hard as rock.

Tub is coming back this weekend. I want to put it on the frame, but I don’t have the transfer case back yet. Moving in 2 weeks, so it needs to be somewhat together for transport.
Anyone installed the transfer case without pulling the transmission?
