So I was digging through my parts at home and decided to pull out the header I bought some time back. I have been thinking about converting to fuel injection using the Holley Sniper kit. There is absolutely nothing wrong with my carb at all and it may just stay, to say the least that battle is been going on for a year. I have been thinking of putting the header on since

1. I have it and
2. why the hell not.
3. seems my OEM manifold is leaking every so slightly.

Here is a shot of the header the question I have it. It has been sand blasted already but could use a quick blast for a few missed spots and the spill of the penetrating oil to get the old smog port off

I initially thought that was an o2 port, but after looking at an old Downey catalog, it is the port for the smog.

The question is how should I coat it? .
Options;
1. Send it out to be ceramic coated
2. Just blast with heat resistant paint
3. Wrap it
4. something else?

Fuel injection battle is one I have to make a decision on. Do I want to keep the carb and deal with the hard starts after a few days, but have the simplicity of the fix anywhere vehicle? OR; Go EFI and have the ability to go anywhere without the need for a oxygen tank, and solid starts every time. But I would be giving up the simplicity and need to carry a ton of spares.

Where can I get a header like this?

So in the process of installing my clutch, throw out bearing etc. I learned a few things.

First
The Snap-on puller A78 @orangefj45 suggests in several posts to remove the pilot bearing is the best tool for the job. Took me longer to position it than it did to pull the pilot bearing.

Second
To install it I used an aluminum bearing installer this is the one with the different aluminum disks and the handle to hammer them in.
I used a medium small one that matched the outer edge of the bearing and used it it punch the Pilot Bearing in. First time, semi correct tool and work great. Being an aluminum installer the bearing was not damaged in any way.

Third
The Toyota OEM throw out bearing is much better than the Koyo ones that comes in the AISIN kit.
In the picture below you can see them side by side. The one on the right is the Koyo, left is Toyota. While the Koyo throw out bearing was not giving me an issue, it seem the Toyota one has more surface area for the fingers on the pressure plate. Might just be me on this though.

Up tomorrow......Installing the H55.

I used this for pulling the pilot bearing. Heck I’ve used to to pull every seal I’ve replaced since I got it! Seriously handy tool! Looking great, can’t wait to hear it run!

Not much of a fight to get it in. Took about 1 hour trying to adjust the trans jack line it up and push it in. It is amazing when you hear that final thunk and it seats.

I bolted the trans right to the transmission jack using the factory mount as other suggested. I did not do a wood platform, probably should have but skipped it.

You can see the two holes I drilled in the plate.

And in and mounted.

Now to hook everything else up, Shifters, Rear driveshaft etc. Address that rust around the opening. Then fill and good to go.
Waiting for some u-joints from @TRAIL TAILOR to replace on the front drive shaft.
Rear was done when I did the rear axle.

So no fun pictures today.

This past weekend buttoned up the H55 install. Installed the u-joints, shifters, connected the drive shafts, skip plate wiring, fixed the carpet and reinstalled the seats.

So I took the 60 for a drive down the street and somewhere I could shift into 5th. WOW that was great and it is like a new truck. Shifts smooth!
Brought it home and drive it forward into the Garage (it was reversed before) and parked it. Now the AFI install

OK have a new problem.

When I first start up I have a whining sound or Like a whistle sound (clutch out vehicle running) a little gas and there it is and it goes away very fast. Idling it is not there, when i first started it, it was there but went away fast. Once warmed up the sound is completely gone and was not evident on the drive. I let the vehicle cool down a bit and it is back.
I would hate to have to pull the trans, but I will do what I must and just may again.

I have a feeling this is the throw-out bearing (new Toyota one) and the clutch may be out of adjustment. Any thoughts on what to check?
While I checked the manual, I did not see a real way to adjust the throw-out bearing
When I installed the clutch, I lined it up with the correct tool and check and rechecked. Trans installation was tough but it went in fine after a couple of tries (each time checking the all was still lined up)

Well after some internal searching. Tomorrow I start pulling the trans and transfer case again.
I just cannot guess what is wrong and need to inspect everything. My worry is I damaged the pilot bearing on install.

Pain in the ass but the right thing to do.

So After some long thoughts and a discussion with myself (i know crazy right) I sold my AFI kit and my header and rebuilt my spare exhaust manifold. I also have a spare intake manifold I will clean up and paint

What is rebuilding an exhaust manifold? In my case it was the horns as the heat riser is working fine.
Thanks to @beno for the parts.
Note sure if I will paint the manifold or not.

Don't waste your time on the EZ-Slide Graphite paint. If you look at my build thread, I used it on mine and it only lasted maybe 6 months. My manifold was media blasted and super clean.

So I have been unhappy with my Man-A-Fre catback exhaust. Not in performance (what ever that is in a 2F) but the look.
I do not like the pipe coming out the side.
Received this from @beno today!
Looks like I have my weekend project. That and I am removing my down pipe, cutting off the air tube and then welding the hole. One more thing out of the engine bay.
