Builds Just another 79 build.....

We almost finished up today but ran into a snag with the support for the swingout.....had to make a quick adjustment there. I bought a strut that is WAY too strong...so I had to order another one. More on that tomorrow when it's done.

Got the longer U-bolt for the clamp.

This is the safety pin.....we will drill a hole in the bumper for this to go thru. Super easy to operate and it stays in position...raised or lowered. Obviously need to make a mount plate to close in the end of the swing out.

Pretty small swing out now that it's all said and done.

This may have already been explained in your thread, but what’s going on here and does your swing out limit the effectiveness of the backup camera? 😊

Those are the fills for the rear air bags that got transferred over from the first build....haven't needed them for this suspension so I probably need to delete them. Seemed like a good place to put them for the time being.

Rear view camera needs to find a new home with this setup for sure.

Covered a lot of ground today.....started with the strut. Getting this strut in the right spot was challenging.....we missed the mark by about 1/2" the first time.....got it right the 2nd time. I will reduce it from a 120# support to maybe a 20 or 40 pounder....it REALLY opens fast with a 120# strut.

And finally.....after WAY too much money and time......here she is. It turned out 100% better than I imagined....and I have high expectations.

#2 making an appearance....

The 5 bar aluminum cap pulled it all together.

Lights do their jobs....tag light got wired up....ran it's wire thru the swing arm.

Will take a little time to adjust to having a tire right next to the fridge area....seems to be the congregation area.

All this work to get that spare off the roof......now I've got room to add something else.....need to start looking.

After a careful study of the completed bumper one thing really jumps out at me.

She's a beaut!

I don't even want to guess at how many hours were in this project. Some things are better left not added up. Unless it's billable to someone else :)

This was one month ago almost to the day:

Good thing you went with steel. That cardboard is droopy.

If it makes you feel better, that's about how long it took me to install my manufactured, off the shelf bumper... I had some rust remediation, wiring issues, and frame/bumper mods to do to make it work... I was impressed how quickly you designed, sourced parts, then built, and installed one!

I guess in the big scheme of things, it really didn't take that long. And even if it took double the time it beats having to take care of rust and wiring :) That stuff really adds the time.....

Swapped the Camper truck for this old relic today.....Camper truck towers over this old girl. I keep looking at the 45 like something is wrong with it. Never remember it being so low.....

I've been in the car business for a long time and involved with a massive variety of cars......lots of shows, lots of events, basically lots of car stuff. Not quite sure I've ever been around a vehicle that gets so much attention. It's kind of hard to believe. On the first day after the afternoon of being setup, the folks that were in RVs around us had came over to ask why so many people were stopping by to take pics of our setup. Pretty funny. Out of all the people who came over to talk, a 20 something girl who was insanely excited about the truck, said she has seen so many 79 series trucks online(she called it a FZJ79 but we'll let that slide) and said she'd never thought she'd see one in real life....I was showing her group around it and asked her if she wanted to sit inside, she let out a huge scream and hopped right in to get her pic in it. Really funny.

just had a thought while looking at your rear bumper build. how about installing the right side tail lights into the swing arm? hmmm....
Thought about it.....would be great for a tire carrier that has its arm mounted on the bumper face and not above. ARB does some cool stuff with their 200 series bumper swing outs and lights.

So how many of those people said “that’s the coolest Jeep I’ve ever seen”? 😁
