I have the UV-5R and really like it. I've played with the UV-5R+ and other models that have fancy features I won't ever use, lol. Go with the tried and true UV-5R!

Will do....there are a slew of different Baefeng models....can you recommend one over others?
This one seems to get really good reviews and has a higher power rating than the rest....I don't know anything about HAMs, so not sure how important that is.

June 25th
- Wake up around 9?
- Decide where to head:
Max Patch
Wolf Creek Falls
(open to suggestions)
- Explore the area
- Find and set up camp relatively early

June 26th
- Pack up, head home!

I am planning on contributing $ towards food...I'm not much of a cook but if needed can easily subsist on Power bars & peanut butter crackers! I do have a few MRE's & will bring....always entertaining to open one! I will be stag as the wife needs to stay home with the 16 year old daughter who has to work all weekend....Looking forward to it!

Making lists of things we can see. Start to take a look and provide suggestions!

martha sundquist

wolf creek falls

rich mountain picnic area / fire tower

max patch

round mountain campground (obviously, we're gonna sleep there)

Possible (but much farther east):

midnight hole falls

mouse creek falls

hen wallow falls

ramsey cascades

Cataract Falls

Johnny, no preferences....all new to me and will enjoy anything that is decided!

The Martha Sundquist state park has a nice loop, with a nice stop halfway for food/etc.

Is the plan to have a meal at Sierra Nevada? Just curious for food planning, if we're eating there a very light dinner Fri may be in order.

We are planning for dinner Friday night, breakfast/lunch/dinner on Saturday, breakfast Sunday, and snacks/sandwiches along the way. It might be overkill but we have two growing kids. I'm not much of a breakfast person but I have to have my coffee.

For sites, Max Patch and a waterfall are the only things on my ToDo list. Anything else is icing on the cake. I like the idea of hiking/driving/exploring wherever.

Max Patch is definitely on the list!! We'll spend an hour or two there depending on the weather.

Yes sir! Plan is to eat a late lunch at Sierra Nevada.

Besides Johnny, has anyone else done this trip?

I'm pretty sure the 4 of us coming up from Upstate Cruisers/Greenville SC have not!
just an observation: so on the trip we have a Jonathan, a Johnny, a Joe and a Jeff (me)....the J's are aplenty!

My son is named Jacob and if we were bringing the dogs, we would have a Jackson :)
