Pre-packing is done (stuff is organized and stacked around the kitchen table). Gonna head out around 10:30-11:00 from ATL. One task to do before heading out...picked up the bike rack from Alf in preparation for Mudship of bike. The rack doesn't line up with the retaining pin in my hitch receiver so gonna do some modification to make it work. Gotta drill another 5/8" hole to make it work.

Got the bike and stand for you to take to ATL!

After setting up camp we met up with Rick and Kat and took a cooling off dip in the lake. The water feels GREAT! Nice and cool. We grilled some corn in the husks and a couple steaks to have with our spinach salad and cold beer. Having a great time despite the temp. The fan really helps. Looking forward to seeing more of the lake by boat tomorrow and a waterfall or two as well.

Had a great time, drive there was a little slow because of some slow ass drivers on hwy 11 that took forever to get around. (slow drivers should be shot :grinpimp:) Got there at 940 on friday night, had fun in the boat on saturday, fun hiking up a waterfall, not so much fun slipping and falling down part of the waterfall. :grinpimp:

Thanks to all that came in making this a memorable occasion.

So, somehow no one had a camera to take pictures, and we were having so much fun in the lake, no one even thought of snapping a picture with their phones!

Got a late start on Friday, due to the new radiator dumping it's contents that morning. I'll have to send it back and get a new one. Repacked the Freestyle, and we headed out.

Managed to be 2 exits behind Al, when we were going through Charlotte. Unloaded the car and set up camp and must have lost 2 pounds in water weight!

The pontoon boat made the whole trip, as we stayed in the water most of Saturday. Great temperatures as the lake had some chilly spots that made it great. Wonderful waterfalls, and some even colder spots on the top. Shame we encountered a water moccasin sunning itself, but if we hadn't tried to shoo it away, we probably could have shared it with him, as he didn't seem to care we were cooling off in his pool. Also, found out that Nalu is part mountain goat, as he ran up the rock face on the side of the waterfall like it was nothing.

Great potluck dinner with some great dishes, along with the East Coast famous Upstate Rotel Dip.... It was an early night on most standards, as we were wiped out from the day of swimming.

Also, for those who are afraid of camping, and have little ones, we managed to have 6 little girls under the age of 7 on this trip, and 0 little boys!

Great trip, probably one to keep on the list....

Thanks to Marshall for showing us the lake and inviting Upstate out to hang out with us!

Well I have a few pics I took from the weekend. Josie and I had a really good time. We got there around lunch Sat morning. The ranger said the parking lot was full and that we would have to leave. That was until I told her I had a camping spot. Then they let us in. Put the boat in and parked the cruiser. We headed out across the lake. A few minutes later we found the rest of the gang. Josie got to play with at least 3 other girls her age which was great. I got to finally relax and crack open a beer. About 30 min later I decided to turn on my phone and lo and behold Jay called me. Said they had been trying to find us. So I raced back across the lake and picked him up. Got back and everyone had moved down to a waterfall close by. Got there and we hung out for a couple hrs. Enjoying the cold water. We then headed over to white water river and enjoyed another dip in some cold water. By this time it was getting lake and we all headed back to go eat.

That night we had more Mexican food than we could possibly eat. It was all really good stuff. Kids played really hard. I think all the adults were beat from being on the lake all day. I don't believe there was anyone that stayed up late. Josie and I headed off to bed. The A/C unit I had fixed the night before worked great. Kept the cruiser down around 70 the whole night. Woke up the next morning said my goodbys and we headed home.

Just wanted to thank ONSC for inviting us. We had a great time hanging out with them. Certainly cannot wait to do it again.

Had a really fun time despite the heat wave (note bring more fans). The day on the lake was epic fun. Cat's not a big swimmer and she really had fun on the lake and being with a lot of good people. Thanks to Brian, Heather, Al and Andrea for planning this trip and taking care of the boat logistics and spearheading the potluck Saturday night. Looks like a great new tradition for the ONSC crew.

We had a eye opening experience on the way home Sunday afternoon. After stopping off to visit a friend near Athens, GA, we hopped back on I-85 and continued south. The traffic was simply stupid. Everybody would be doing 60+ mph and then brake lights would start lighting up for no apparent reason (unless going uphill is a valid reason). No accidents or blue lights - just people hopping lanes or driving too slow or something.

The second time it happened I was in the left lane and cars came to a complete stop in front of me. I hit the brakes hard (but not hard enough to kick in the ABS) and at the last moment thought I might not make it, so I pulled left onto the shoulder about halfway. Partly I was worried the car behind me wouldn't stop in time too - just gut instinct told me I should dive into the shoulder and there was plenty of pavement and grass to do so. My driver tires hit the rumble strip and we came safely to a stop. I look in my rearview and see the Civic behind me stopped too. So now I refocus on the cars in front of me and see that the 20 or so cars are now starting to roll forward. I start to turn back into my lane but I'm barely moving forward when out of the passenger window I see the Civic go shooting by.

My first thought was Wow! she's not even going to let me back in my lane?! But then I saw that she was on the shoulder in front of me with a smashed trunk and she clipped her driver side rearview on my rub rails - Cat and I did feel the mirror hit, but it didn't sink in right away. I look back out my rearview again and see a big cream colored Hyundai SUV/minivan thing with his front end pushed in and his rear bumper hanging off the back. Behind him is a little silver compact car - Corolla or Sentra type thing. The little silver compact is completely folded up in the front and he apparently bounced off the rear of the Hyundai minivan and landed in the left shoulder. Amazingly he got out completely unharmed. Nobody was really freaked out, which was refreshing. The girl who was driving the Civic was the last of the domino chain and because we pulled onto the shoulder we were in the middle of it, but not really involved. She got out and thought she had totally crunched our passenger side door, but was relieved when I told her that was old damage (from GSMTR). I started putting all the pieces together on what happened and thought, Wow, we really dodged a bullet here.

The cops show up just a few minutes later and make sure no one is injured and talk to each of us. Everybody's story was matching up apparently and no body is laying blame or pointing angry fingers. When he got back to me he looked at the damage on my truck and said, "Did this happen here?"
I again said, "no, this is all old trail damage."
He says, "So you won't be needing a report, right?"
I said, "Not at all."
"Then you can go."

The girl in the Civic I'm sure could still drive. Not sure about the minivan, since his exhaust system took a lot of damage. The little silver compact was going to have to scooped up and hauled off. If I had stayed on the road I probably would have stopped in time, but Dig-Dug surely would have left the girl's Civic undriveable. She would have run her hood up into and under my steel bumper.

Glad I made the decision to pull off the road when I did, but also makes me frustrated that people can be so bullheaded on the highway and cause accidents to happen 20-25 cars back without even knowing it. Be safe out there guys and stayed focused on driving.

Hey the UC crowd has scheduled July 20-22 next year for Jocassee. Is this a date that works with y'all? I would like to do the same thing again. My daughter had a great time playing with the kids.

Not sure..... i'm still in the process of trying to make the schedule. Me and the new prez need to hammer a few things out but it is a good possibility.

Could you do anything about the heat though............... :flipoff2:

It made drinking all the IPAs we had very hard without a ton of water to go with it.

It was unusually hot up there last time. Hoping it won't be like that next year. Who knows though with the way the weather has been lately it might be snowing in July,

I would love you guys to join us... I'm bringing my scout troop, also.
