glad I was removing some leaves as the pin running through them had loosened and was getting ready to shear off.....I ended up breaking it anyway and plan to replace the bolts on the other 3 as well.

New Shackles verse old shackle.....wow....big difference can't wait to see how it rides.

Go boy.

Look, you need to get different spring bolts though. Those heads will not go deep enough into the spring pads to hold it in place. In fact, they may not even fit in the hole that is there.

Go to Lowe's. Find the black, allen head grade 8 bolts. The head is round like a stock spring bolt and 2x deeper than a regular bolt head.

dumb question. spring is back on minus 2 leaves....the plate (where shock mounts and u bolts run through) is not lining up with the u bolts. I guess they flexed once not run through the plate. (see u bolt on right side in pic) Is this normal? what's the best way to get them lined back up with the holes in the plate? Can I bend them with a vice or will this compromise structural integrity? I ask as we had a good debate on whether they should be reused at all anyway.

What grade are the bolts you used? Forget it. Call me.

Jeff..call ya manana.......phones at my parents house

Nolan im not talking about the spring im talking about the ubolt and I think I am going to use a shortened ratchet strap to pull one side of the U toward the other one until I can drop them down into the holes in the plate.

Strong work there John. I have crazy robin's come along in my garage if you need to borrow it. I may let you borrow his old tow rope if you're lucky.

ok I have grade 8 in my truck.

somebody explain to me how I can use a come along to hoist the spring up to the axle for easier mounting.....I was planning to use a jack stand and lift the spring that way?

I can stop by on the way home and give you a hand if you want.

you are more than welcome to Rob. Ill be in the garage by 630-7ish to get started. I am going to rig something so I can lift the spring up to the axle and get the ubolt plate lined up and ubolts back on ATLEAST that one corner tonight.

Andy I may need your come along if I can't find mine..it may be at my dad's for our backyard/ landscaping work over there.

C clamps in hand, plan of action for raising the spring to axle safely ready, ....can't work on it til monday:mad:

thanks

Call Herrin Gear, ask for Scott and get a price from him. He's been getting close TOD pricing for me lately.

thanks for the heads up Greg....we will see if this guy wants the rims this afternoon and then ill move on some new ones.

looks like im getting new ubolts for Christmas:bang:

This particular one was cut off after the nut was rounded off trying to get it back on tight. The bolts all feel "soft" and many are mangled pretty bad.

I think this supports the argument for those of you that said replace them. They were streached, and a few bolts were virtually imposible to get off....stripped out a few so all new will ensure it's safe and easy to reinstall.
