Did some riveting things when I got home from work yesterday, so I figured I would share it with the team.

There is a few tolerable noises in the rig, some plastic panel rattles, dash vibrations, tire carrier clunk all mediocre low level noises but the Sunroof chatter , rattle, clunk is frustrating

I feel like there isn't much information regarding these shims on here because most sunroof threads are regarding leaks and wind noises. The part numbers are as followed, each shim comes in two different sizes:

Front: 63277-20030 & 63277-20050 (2x the thickness)
Rear: 63277-20020 & 63277-20040 (2x the thickness)

Once you take off(break off) the plastic trim for the sunroof its pretty obvious where the shims go

I still have the chatter so not sure if I need more shims or if its the dowels that need work. Have a half day today so looking forward to getting into it more.

Nice to see another midwest 81. What catch can is that? Did you have to drill another hole in the valve cover?

Yeah opened up another hole, didnt want any restriction.

Its a vibrant can, quality is great, its huge. But the baffling inside was pretty week hence why I added some stainless steel scrub pads. I am still working on a solution for that, too much vapor is still getting out which is filming everything on that side of the engine bay with a thin amount of oil. I dont want to recirculate but I may just run the lines to the frame rail and have it vented that way, maybe throw some filter on the end to dissipate it.

Did some other random jobs over the weekend

Had a pulley noise going on, belts seem fine, tension seemed fine. Decided to take a whack at the easiest fix and bam quiet as a church mouse

The wife wanted to go to Target, because it was a day that ended in "y". So I decided to look around for a sunroof fix, I checked my round dowels and they are completely flat, I tried spinning them like some have suggested and couldnt get it to budge.

The goal was to find a cushion of sort that I can stick there, be waterproof but be sturdy. And I found this glorious thing, will report back with how it worked out.

So clean.
Your doggo is a chonk.

Still accumulating parts for what should shape out to a big install day. Took advantage of a Speedhut sale awhile back and picked up an EGT gauge and Boost gauge, tried to match the interior gauges. It will be pretty sad just seeing the boost hit 10-12psi for now, but 30psi is in the future somewhere

Will be installing the gauges into a Mudpod

Also picked up some legit clamps for the intercooler install since

Besides that just been enjoying the hell out of this thing, I drive it everyday with a smile on my face. In a few weeks we are taking our first "trip" with it, to visit some friends in St. Louis so about 400miles each way. Doing minor things to make it more livable like door trim

Thinking about putting our house on the market so we had some carpet cleaners come by and he said they would do the land cruiser for a extra few bucks, it actually came out great, who knows the last time the carpet had a deep cleaning

Also started to dive in some of the documentation that came with her and finding her origins, it looks like she may have lived in the same city her whole life, dealership was there and it was last registered there, Higashi Ward of ***uoka

I also have been debating suspension..... since I got this thing. I always knew I wanted 0 lift, just whatever lift came with new parts and no sag. I knew I wanted adjustable, looked at TJM because they actually had great reviews on here....but they are no longer being made, the ranchos also have some pretty decent reviews but wasnt sure if the quality was up to par. I almost convinced myself to go BP51, or the new MRRs, but spending that type of money and not lifting this thing seemed pretty dumb.

I finally decided on some Toughdog 40mm 9 stage adjustables, and was able to take advantage of the beautiful AUD to USD conversion. Hoping that lands here soon

Did you import this yourself?

Oh its on upwards of 10K to make it legal in CA.

Got the EGT and Boost setup with the mudpod, looking at about 12psi and EGTs are all pretty low during my normal commute(500-800), will try to find some hills around here to see what it could go up to. If you know toyota diesels you also no one of the fears is managing EGTs, happy to find out I havent been driving out of spec and causing damage without knowing about it.

Now that I could monitor changes I will probably up the boost and play with the boost compensator.

I also tracked down the noise that happens randomly when I come up to a stop, it sounded like the engine was slightly out of tune or a worn engine mount just a slight undertone of a "churn" sound. Seems like its the transmission (if I shift it into neutral the sound automatically goes away), hoping to clear that up with a fluid change, I will have to look into it a bit more.

Also found some drips of oil on the driveway, either the rear main seal is slowly dying or its the oil pan gasket is I will have to look again after I cleaned up that area yesterday but if its the oil pan gasket I guess the BEBs move up the list a lot faster.

Really happy with how OEM the mudpod looks, the curves and texture is just spot on for being made for a different car.

Land down under is a store?

I need to order some shocks soon

I seemed to be in a minority when looking for shocks, I wanted no lift but also wanted something well built and well tested. After what felt like months of random searching I landed on some Tough Dogs, great reviews, comparison test like this http://www.euro4x4parts.com/images/4wd_action_165_tough_dog.pdf , etc.

Not many options to get TDs here, our mud vendor and all around great guy @TRAIL TAILOR is 4-6weeks out and the only US supplier, so I reached out to an Aussie shop to see if they were willing to ship across the globe. Normally this would be way too expensive but since the USD to AUD is very favorable at the moment it ending up being a fair price, they were shipped out last Thursday and got here yesterday(3day shipping). If you can wait I recommend using TT because in the end of the day it would be cheaper still and you know.... support local, but if you need it sooner just DM me and ill give you the Australians shop contact.

Nice build, I really regret selling mine but your thread took me back down memory lane.
Here is what I went through on mine:

Trust me mate, ive looked at your build a dozen times. Would have love to see it still in your hands and where you would have taken it.

200s are cool and practical and everything, but you need something in that signature with some character ;)

I like how the catch can re-routes back into the crank case. Mine is venting to atmosphere now and you can smell it with the windows down. Do you have any info on that crank case port for the hoses? I have an HPD can right now...

Both ports into the catch can are inlets, which means I was 100% vented as well. I ended up going back to stock due to the smell plus slight film of crankcase juice on everything in that part of the engine bay, I even disconnected the catch can and ran both lines/hoses to the frame rail but still wasnt happy with the outcome(even connected a couple of those mini filters at the end of the hoses). Diesels are toxic enough as they are, I felt like I was shaving a few hours from my lifespan everyday I drove it around vented inhaling the fumes.

I was taking things ive learnt from the import/fast car world and trying to apply them to this rig and most of the time it just doesnt work. So I decided to take a step back and do as the Aussies do, theyve been modding/working/tinkering on this platform for a long time, my next "catch can" project will probably be me buying a Flash Lube setup.
